He was called up for a 2-day training camp with Netherlands' u-19's and for his club also resurfaced with the u19's for some reason, scoring a brace in 3-0 win over Heerenveen's u-19's. Generates as many questions as answers in the situation.

Well he's a badass. I'm ok if he's Holland's badass for a minute as long as he's ours in the end.

Both were good players and good contributors to the team.

U19s in a relegation battle, Jong Vitesse too btw, so they are trying to stay up and use the best U19 players. If they keep winning, he should be back in the Jong team soon

    Thanks for the update.

But it still begs the question - where was he prior to this weekend?

And if he's the most valuable player in the youth system that he's moved around fluidly to save them, will he be moved up to the Oud team when their seasons are done or they are out of the woods?

Well depends.. We have quite a few attackers at the moment, but almost all our left wingers are on loan. I'm at the same school as Kai and we had exam weeks, so could be that he was busy with that and didn't play last week.. The only chance that he'll make minutes in first team is when we win the cup I think

Koreniuk appears to be the man in Vitesse's youth system right now. He scored his 17th goal of the season in a 1-1 draw against Gronigen's u-19's. He's apparently scored 7 goals for the u-19's now, and had 10 goals for the reserve side to lead the league at the time he departed it.

Looks like it's time to go back because the reserve side is kind of floundering without him. They've accrued 4 points in 5 matches, to drop into a relegation playoff spot. Weren't exactly tearing it up before, but they've been discernibly worse without him. One would think remaining in their current reserve team league would be the more important goal. Moving up to the Eerste eventually would be even better. That would be great experience for their prospects. The reserve teams in there's parent teams are 2, 3, and 4 in the Eredivisie.

If not for these conflicts, one would think Kai would be making benches for Vitesse otherwise. Developmentally, there's really nowhere else for him to go.

what are the first team strikers like? could he compete with them next season?

That could also depend on what Chelsea has up their sleeves. The attackers are Rashica (Kosovo international), Van Wolfswinkel (undisputable leader of the attack), Van Bergen (youngest dubutant for Vitesse and huge talent), Foor, Zhang.

Did that really just happen? I guess Paris is known for choking lol #hilton

Well, if they get a little further away from that Europa League playoff spot, which let's face it shouldn't be some big carrot in the first place, Vitesse should give him a number of opportunities toward the end of the season here to prove he's better than the entrenched alternatives or prospective loanees. Of course there would be little incentive then to play loanees from this season, including guys like Matt, unless they have a buy option for them.

  16. For teams like Vitesse, Heerenveen AZ and FC Utrecht etc. it is a big carrot, and given the table ranking they will be in the running till the end of the season. Only on 30 april the chance is there to secure a place in the group phase of the EL with the win. But that's about one match before the last match of the season. So there is no chance for Vitesse to go freewheeling.

The moment to prove himself is only realistic in the preparation weeks before the season starts.

When I say it's not a big carrot, I mean they still would only make a 4-team playoff for a Europa League spot, and theoretically have the worst chance of earning it if they finished 7th. That's a baby carrot.

That's whack, especially from a country that prides itself on development. There should be a reward for youth/reserve team success with entry into the 1st team during the season. Otherwise you're not properly incentivizing it and maximizing talent available to you.

  18. When it's the only carrot you have it never is neglegtable for the club and for the fans.
The standing in the table of the play off teams also isnot a measure of your chance to succeed. Most of the times those clubs are close to each other in quality. The midfield is vital for your performance. In it Vitesse has a high quality loanie from Chelsea. He's considered as one of the best technically gifted players in the league. Unfortunately for Vitesse he's also young and erratic. He has matches that are so good he makes the team of the week and others that are just awfull. And when the midfield is AWOL the team isnot getting anywhere. So Vitesse's ranking isnot the true measure of the quality of the team and thus doesnot predict the chances of succeeding in the play off.

Well, you've got a rosy, romantic perception of how we approach things, but itisnot correct. We are a professional league and not an education centre. The mindset of coaches, staff and clubs is beneficiary for developing talents compared to the EPL, but we're not going to do it to the detriment of the club. We never play a talent just to give him a chance. He has to prove he deserves a chance in the first place. If you have the impression we just toss talents into the first team and look what happens, then you have to think again. We don't do that.

Zhang and van Bergen got their chances in the first team, Kai Koreniuk has outscored them if you look at the history. Without Kai the second division has done terrible for past weeks. They might be playing 3rd division next year. This weekend with 8 or more 1st team players they lost 4-0 against VVSB. Very disappointing. On the other hand U19 Vitesse has done well. Very interesting all.
It sure did @feyenoordsoccerfan! This is what it should read

He did prove he deserves a chance. That's what the 18 goals he's up to reinforce. Don't want youth players to stagnate. Vitesse's #1 fan had my back.

But Kai is probably no Jizz Horn Camp (the band camp lore is true), whose Heerenveen u19 squad flattened Koreniuk's Vitesse 5-nil recently (but they bounced back with a 3-1 win over Almere City). Jizz Horn Camp has one of the highest scoring rates in the league. Also a member of Netherland's u-19 squad, which Kai flirted with. I really hope that guy is legit as much as Kai. https://translate.googleusercontent...185817&usg=ALkJrhiiPkvOvPMgtqxaE2UBXpzM0tivyQ

I think it has to do with Kai's expiring contract. It must have to do with that now Agrafiotis is playing more for Jong Vitesse than Koreniuk. Or they are afraid of the rules as Kai won't be allowed to play for the U19s anymore if he plays one more match for Jong
