He wasn't great, but if we look at the attack, you can hardly blame a guy that got 10 minutes over the likes of Mandzukic who was off all-game, Ronaldo, who didn't make the difference we needed in that type of game, Dybala and Douglas Costa.
Genoa essentially created nothing while Juve should have been up 2-0 by the time they conceded on a very strange moment of inattention. Benatia (for not closing down), Bonucci (for allowing another opponent to drift behind him on a cross), and the CMs for not tracking Bessa's run either. So it was disappointing that Juve not only failed to kill the game off but also conceded in such a dumb manner. As for the last 20 minutes, Bernardeschi, Dybala, and Costa all wanted to be in the same spaces. Throw in that they were each hasty on the ball and resorted to individualism when they got desperate, Juve looked very sloppy at the end. Through the first 10 matches, Juve's subs played a massive role. Today their introduction made Juve's play worse. With Costa only just returning to competitive action and looking rusty, Dybala recovering from injury, Mandzukic appearing tired, Juve's don't seem to be physically at their best. If Can is rumored to have surgery, Juve's depth is going to be tested.
Agreed that they made little contribution, though I though Allegri was justified in his decision to bring them on. We didn't look sharp all game, much less after the equalizer. It's pretty clear that everyone's mind was on Manchester already.
Well, I don't think pulling Cuadrado was a good move. He was having a good match and it looked like Max decided he wanted to get Costa some work so he pulled him. He certainly had not done anything to deserve the hook. So THAT was a mistake. If he is going to make that move (which almost looked predetermined) he needs to make sure we have already put the game away with a 2-3 goal lead, not 1-0. At 1-0 you only make a sub that is not designed to make the team better, not get a guy some work.
Cuadrado was having a solid game and should have had an assist on two occasions (one of which Ronaldo hit the post). The other little issue is that Ronaldo looks more effective when Mandzukic is next to him. Mandzu wasn't having the best game and deserved to come off, but it did leave Juve with only one player capable of scoring on crosses in a packed box. So they ended the game with Costa, Sandro, Cancelo, and Bernardeschi serving in crosses to Ronaldo with nearly Genoa's entire team surrounding him. Despite that he should have scored on a header and Dybala came very close. Still, in that situation I'd rather have an extra CF if the plan is to cross as often as possible.
Cristiano Ronaldo, San Miniato gli regala un tartufo nel ritiro di Firenze … La consegna del tartufo di San Miniato a Ronaldo
Poor, poor, poor. Aside from Alex Sandro, it's hard to say anyone has played well. I'm very unimpressed with this allegedly amazing attack we have. Ronaldo hasn't done anything. Dybala shows his inconsistency yet again. Bernardeschi has been terrible. Allegri has his work cut out for him at the half.
