How did the article make the leap from he tried everything to be ready for the game this week to he could miss the start of the Premier League season? Hopefully they are just being cautious. Andy Robertson missed a Scotland game this season to go to the dentist.
No need to panic. I am sure we have already identified our FB target. If Robertson really does miss the start of the season then Milner/Gomez can cover while the back up gets up to speed.
Is Milner even staying? I'm fine with him opening the season but I didn't think he was automatically sticking around.
He has a year left on his contract and Leeds didn't get promoted, so no reason for him to go anywhere.
In France 98 World Cup, Ronaldo (Brazil) was excluded at first and then included in the final the rumour being Nike were forcing his selection. He had been suffering from an illness. It has never been clear what went about. The point is are sponsors, financial giants, "friends with money" forcing the inclusion of players to play. I have seen it happen when superstars are rushed back from injury and make a miraculous appearance in an important game, and I have seen players be selected just because of their name. I have no evidence to back this but I feel that Harry Kane will get selected for Spurs and England because of commitments to sponsors and the money men. He is talented but there has been no justification to include him after such a long injury layoff. We had Klopp pulling Firmino off, and Poch insisting with Kane. We got number 6 they got number 0.
The current summer tourneys are a bit boring - but at least it's something: WWC, Copa America, Gold Cup, and shortly the African Cup of Nations.
just watched Copa America game between Colombia and - that well-known S. American country - Qatar. 2-2 final.
With only 10 teams in the south american federation they always have two invited nations to make up groups of four teams. This year its Japan and Qatar.
Rooney was a much better player than Kane ---- why would any England manager have not played a fit Rooney? until circa 2015 anyway....?
Because he looked like a feckless donkey when he wasn't in a United shirt with the exception of Euro '04 and maybe WC 2006.
He was wrong for England in some ways, but I think their inability to develop attacking midfielders in that timeframe made him somewhat undroppable. I mean, who should have played instead of him? That's the real issue for me. And frankly you could say the very same thing of Kane... at least until Rashford starts to get much more consistently productive.
Fair enough. Also their (Sven's) insistence on getting all the "talent" on the field at once when they don't all necessarily make the best team.
Rooney was ten times as talented as Klose but let down by the surroundings. Klose has 16 WC goals, Rooney 1.
