As they are set to participate in a World Cup hosted by a thug-ridden and murderous regime that has invaded neighboring countries... And it was his country's government that worked hand in hand with the iranian terrorists in the murder of 85 jews on argentinian soil. f*&k Higuain.
This is what I was concerned about with this England squad... I know it’s not the first choice 11, but they are relying on one player for creativity while 1 striker holds the line and CMs and fullbacks come up for quick early whipped crosses. Just doesn’t look convincing against good competition... it’s fine for Costa Rica. Gonna need a lot from the dele Alli role to look at all consistently dangerous... that said Rashford is doing a fine job in that free role off the striker tonight.
If Sane couldn't have an impactful match against Saudi Arabia then there may be something wrong with German tactics... Let's see what Reus does in the knockout stages.
Reus is better than Sane, folks.... but it's the rest of them that should be getting th ecomaparison for me the only two definite attackers Germany should bring are Reus and Mueller
He's entrenched in the German team, he's known those guys for years and years... I get why he's on the team. I'm just saying, he's a shell of his former self and, frankly, an injury risk.
As a conclusion of the EPL player issue. Different reason, of course: Marco Reus has been replaced by Ilkay Gündogan and fans aren’t happy. Boos and whistles every time the ManCity player is on the ball. #GERKSA pic.twitter.com/UiM84i6loz— Hecko Flores (@hecko90) June 8, 2018
Gündogan and Özil met with Erdogan in London in early May. Gündogan even gave Erdogan a shirt with the signature "for my dear president". Later it turned out Gündogan doesnt even have a Turkish passport. From then on it's been a public shitshow as you might could guess. Everything DFB has been done since has proven catastrophic and Özil has done even worse shying away from everything not even talking to the press. DFB tried to declare this scandal over but the fans obviously didnt think so. Gündogan almost scored yesterday and they still booed. Understandably, if you ask me
I agree with you White/Blue. I don't pretend to understand the underlying issues, but what they did was enormously disrespectful. not to mention stupid of course.
I think you're both blowing it out of proportion but I guess that's also the difference between the American opinion about heritage vs the European model. We embrace our backgrounds and are also proud Americans. There's room for both in our eyes. In Europe, (it seems) it's harder to assimilate into a new country (if that's what your family chooses/has to do). So it turns into something as stupid as this. Before anyone bites my head off about this specific scenario, I haven't done in depth reading about Ozil and Gundogan to know about their family's story. I'm just talking in general.
You can embrace your heritage all you want. But common sense would tell you not to do ANYTHING that could undermine ANY perception that your primary loyalty is to the country of the national team you are playing for?????
It is plain simple: If you are a player and you give an interview saying you actually want to play for another club("my dear president") how well will that go down with the club's fans? Now multiply that with the honor to play for a country and anyone can guess you're not going to win a popularity contest with such a move.
I never knew the level of sensitivity of the German population considering 15% of the country is of Turkish decent(according to wiki circa 2016), so what if they refer to Erdogan as my president.... they haven't committed treason & the two players are currently Playing for Germany....it's as if they scored two own goals for Turkey in a competitive game Although the actions were ill advised and damn right idiotic behaviour
After further thought on this subject and more research, I'm switching my opinion. This was beyond stupid.
This international break may have some benefits after all if Lallana and Henderson can get some playing time for England, Shaqiri for Switzerland and Fabinho for Brazil.
