Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction But what about the children? Their feelings are always the first to go. This is just another way to 'slight' JK in that he is not even important enough to bump 12 year olds playing baseball. Much like the US, they like to build up their heroes just to have fun tearing them back down, especially ones that try and change things.
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction o.k maybe for you american fans it does not matter of the game on TV starts 21 later or not....but the fun is that the little league of some 12 year old kids was more important than the big start and debut of Klinsi...this only says that soccer is not that so important...and for Klinsi..hm.21 minutes later?..not pretty good welcoming start for him from US T.V. o.k..for Klinsi it has one advantage...less pressure from the public and press...in Germany each his step was followed....in the USA do not care many people what Klinsi does or not..soccer is not the top topic in the press..this is advantage of beeing coach in the USA compared to soccer country like Germany
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction For most, it was broadcast on time in the language that most viewers wanted to see it - on Univision. Here in the usa there were about 4.5 million Spanish language viewers and 1.5 million English language viewers. Special bonus- no John Harkes.
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction first Klinsi, the man who wants to "save" your soccer" and than children with their baseball league..... well, soccer mentality is just different in our countries..it is not bad....soccer is not your sport number one...but when Americans are fans of soccer like people here on bigsoccer, they are crazy about soccer as we Germans i like your soccer fans in the USA i will follow more news for your from Germany about Klinsi..surely more press after some US games... Klinsi fan bltleo
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction Fortunately or Unfortunately college football and the NFL are starting their seasons, and the baseball play-offs are not too far away. The only people who will beaware that JK is coaching in the US are big soccer members and fans from foreign countries
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction You misunderstand me, the game started on time on another channel, which carried the pre-game show anyway. Many English viewers (as was pointed out, more watched on Spanish TV) saw the whole thing from the beginning, live. Only those w/out ESPN news (think Sky 3 or the equivalent) had to wait/miss time. Though it does say something about the importance of soccer in the USA, I'll agree there. For reasons that escape me, watching 12 year olds play baseball is exceedingly popular here.
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction FYP. I agree. I mean, going to a baseball game can be fun, but watching it on TV? It's just ahead of Golf and Fishing for suspense and entertainment
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction I actually wish baseball and soccer would be our sport instead of eggball, but unfortunately I think baseball may be dying out a bit. In 2002 beating Mexico in the WC guess what song the crowd sang? Take me out to the ball game.
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction In terms of participation, Soccer already has egg ball, baseball AND basketball beat. We just aren't doing it well. That will take time. It will take less time if we recognize it and work at making the structure better.
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction Those are my two favorites as well, but I don't think baseball is dying out. Look at revenue where MLB is bigger than NBA + NHL, look at attendance, look at youth participation, don't look at ESPN coverage.
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction And when other country's youngsters come to the LLWS, like Mexico, we don't boo and whistle at them every time they touch the ball. We just enjoy the youth competition for what it is, a game played by young kids, imagine that.
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction bltleo: welcome back! We hired Klinsi just to get you to show up in the US national team forum.
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction thanks it is funny how many people remember me..despite i have made a longer break from US forums..o.k i have had a look now and then here, but had nothing "important" to say.. actually it is Klinsi "fault" that I follow USMNT now as well as I did in the past....i have been following Klinsi career since I was a child...when i was small girl he was on my posters ..i had many soccer stars on my posters...having father that was crazy about soccer.. USA is good team..and i have one wish as Klinsi has..to see a friendly game between USA and Germany...Klinsi vs. Löw...both are super coaches....both are friends....and will be "enemies" on the soccer field when USA playing Germany..hope Klinsi get this test game against Germany...this is what he also wants.
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction That would be a great game. We could also have several Germans playing for the US: Jermaine Jones, Timmy Chandler, Fabian Hurzeler (some day!). Our US servicemen have been trying to take advantage of the German training system by having their children over there!
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction Germany-USA would be definitive a super cool game..Löw vs. Klinsi...both friends against each other...Klinsi will try to get this test game against Germany...and I believe he will get it..of course much more "dramatically" it would be when Germany meet USA in the world cup, also not in some test game, but in world cup in elimination round...hm.. i´m actually glad that USA learn German soccer system made in Germany/Klinsi now... i think it is good system..so we export our soccer know how in the USA...i also hope USA will get more fans, more kids will play soccer in the USA and soccer will be more important and will be also once a topic on the front pages of newspapers... btw: what write US news about Klinsi ?...are voices more positive or negative? some quick summary????thanks bltleo klinsi fan, GErmany
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction Here is one article. http://msn.foxsports.com/foxsoccer/...ysis-jurgen-klinsmann-debut-new-energy-081011 everything has been positive so far.
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction A one word summary would be "optimism". We will know more about press perceptions after the next two friendlies. Real results are much farther off.
Lahm...on Klinsmann. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/s...:-jurgen-klinsmann-doesn't-do-tactics?cc=5901 First posted by Fiosfan in MLS:N/A. Maybe somebody can post the other pertinent parts on here. Lahm does not seem to mince words when it comes to Klinsmann.
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction More German reaction: http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/87/germany/2011/08/23/2632478/bayern-munichs-philipp-lahm-we-had-to-come-up-with-our-own
Re: Lahm...on Klinsmann. That is a pretty indicting statement: "The experiment with Klinsmann was a failure. We were only working on our fitness in training. He didn't care much for tactical stuff," he wrote. "It was up to the players to come together before a match and discuss how we were going to play. ''All the players knew after about eight weeks that it was not going to work out with Klinsmann. The remainder of that campaign was nothing but limiting the damage." -------------------- That means he lost the team by Sept/October. I will try and find the silver lining here and say I am more glad he went to BM and learned from this mistake then going directly from the manschaft to the nats. Assuming he learned. I just can't see a team with Dooley on the sidelines not playing tough down the middle and organized in the back.
Re: Jurgen's hiring, the German reaction I'd also like to hear Lahm's perspective on Klinsi from the National Team side. There are a few guys like Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Podolski, Klose, Borowski that were with both teams, and it would be great if we could hear from them RE what went wrong/right in each case. How Klinsmann was, how training was run, etc. Grant Wahl should really get on that one.
