Jordan Henderson has been assured by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp that he will remain the club’s captain for the foreseeable future. The arrival of Naby Keita from Red Bull Leipzig in the summer, and possibly another midfielder depending on Emre Can’s contract situation, has increased the scrutiny on Henderson’s role in the side going forward. Henderson was appointed as Liverpool captain in July 2015 following Steven Gerrard’s retirement, and skippered England for their recent friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy. There is an emerging school of thought, though, that the dynamic nature of Liverpool’s play means Keita will be an automatic starter in the Reds’ midfield engine room. Should Henderson therefore not find himself a regular next season, Klopp could be under pressure to hand the armband to another player. Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, who was recently appointed Holland skipper, would appear the obvious candidate to replace him. However, Klopp stated he has no plans to take the captaincy off Henderson in the future which would indicate the 27-year-old still has a major part to play as a first-team regular. “Hendo is doing an incredible job here,” Klopp said. “If you ask me ‘am I thinking about giving the armband to someone else?’ then no. “Captaincy feels like a joy in the first moment and then from that moment on it’s only work. I don’t think if I asked in the dressing room ‘who wants to be captain next year?’ that 28 arms would go up. What we need at Liverpool are these kind of players who are leaders. Hendo and Virgil are leaders and that’s cool. “But I am not half as much interested in the captaincy role than you all are. I’ve learned a lot in the last few days about the captaincy role in cricket, but I don’t really know what they are talking about! Do you need more than one player who feels responsible for the whole group? Yes of course. We have them and Virgil is one of them. “It’s a job to do and it’s not better paid, you don’t get extra money for doing it. There are a lot more duties and not a lot more rights to be honest.”

Liverpool’s success without Coutinho is testament to Klopp’s genius https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/apr/19/liverpool-success-coutinho-klopp-genius
Nah. Not having that. I’ve been told by some great television pundits and writers that all Klopp does is emotionally charge the players and crowd.
Well, that's half the battle. The best players in the world are not much use if they aren't up for it on the day!
And how is it all a big surprise? The criticism was always "great going forward, vulnerable at the back". Exit Coutinho = some loss to an excellent attack Add Karius/VvD/OxC = MUCH more defensive stability The pundits got what they asked for!

Jordan Henderson has revealed how Jürgen Klopp’s “calm” disposition during half-time team talks has helped Liverpool reach the Champions League semi-finals. Klopp’s side entertain Roma at Anfield at Tuesday night with a place in next month’s Kiev final on offer if they can beat their Italian guests over two legs. Liverpool overcame Manchester City in the quarter-finals earlier this month and despite the 5-1 aggregate scoreline, Pep Guardiola’s side dominated for long spells in both games. An unlikely City comeback looked possible at the midway point of the second leg with Guardiola’s men 1-0 up on the night and bossing the play. Liverpool improved in the second half at the Etihad however, scoring two unanswered goals through Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. When asked, in light of that turnaround, how Klopp acts in the dressing room during moments of extreme pressure, Henderson said: “He is still quite calm, actually. “He gets his message across really well. He will have maybe things up on the screen that he wants to improve on and do better in the second half, but he gets his message across really well. “After the game he waits until the next day to digest and maybe watch the game back. Quite calm at half time in terms of what route we are going to take in second half.” Despite Liverpool beating City to reach the last four, Henderson believes that Roma should be the ones considered as favourites for the semi-final tie after their remarkable comeback victory over Barcelona. “You look at their last game – they knocked Barcelona out and so have really laid down a marker for the Champions League,” he said. “They are the team to beat so we have to go out there and do what we do which is give everything and do what the manager wants us to do. If we can do that it gives us a better chance of getting to the final.”

Obviously there's still MLS... and the A-League? Looks like they're still using it too. I'm a snobby asshole, so I only care about the highest level. But seeing how it works in MLS via youtube has been helpful.
The margins are small but if Liverpool can repeat that performance then turn last season's 4-1 and 5-0 defeats at Spurs and City into draws or wins it will be a pretty epic year defensively.
