"Since losing to Spurs in October, Liverpool have taken 41 from 54 available points in the league. That's an 18 game run of 2.28 points per game. Extrapolates to 87 points over 38 games. Most seasons, that's title-winning pace." With two thirds of the campaign having now been played, we’ve compared the points, goals scored and goals conceded tallies of every club to the same point last term. Yeah. Milner, Gini, Origi, and Lallana all had 6 to 8 goals. Phil had 7, Mane has 6, and after that, Ox leads the way with 3.
You know, whenever we have fallen short in the recent past, this club has created some deadly combinations just before that but at the critical time we have failed to step up to next level by upgrading the weak points; instead we have tended to sell a key stone. And then bought a dud to replace, never mind addressing the previous weaknesses. I hope we don’t repeat the mistake and, no, Coutinho doesn’t count.
Had you told me last year that we would add a 30 goal scorer to the lineup and we'd be essentially treading water...
....but while only having one of our most influential players for ~3.5 months (coutinho), and not having another one for the entire season to date (Lallana), and Mane (2 months) - while having CL games as well..... It's not that bad!!
... and still without the confident presence in the centre of defence or between the sticks, at least for most the season. Not bad at all, I'd say.
Also, although you added a 30 goal scorer, you can't field 12 players so there is a minus side to that equation.
The Reds have averaged 2.22 goals per home game since Klopp took over in October 2015 - their highest ratio in the Premier League under any manager.
