4-2-3-1 would with Firmino up too, then a bank of Sane-Phil-Lallana 4-4-2 could accomodate Bobby and Origi-Ings (assuming health/firm) Then new wide MF-Phil-Lallana-Sane We need an "unlocker" - a speedy winger on the opposite side as Sane to pin defenses back and make them worry about attacks from both flanks rather than just Sane.
Klopp's 4-2-3-1 at Dortmund never featured anyone as small as Coutinho in the midfield two. I'd be amazed if he changed that in an even more physical league.
Apologies - I was confusing this post with one in another thread that linked to an article in which Klopp talked about Coutinho being used as an "8" rather than a "10". Multiple tabs open + multiple lubricants consumed isn't always a wise combination.
Today is the 12 year anniversary of Istanbul. Here's to Klopp being the man to return the club to European glory.
He's the right man at the right time for this club. Wouldn't take any other manager in the world right now. My prediction upon his arrival was that he'd: - Be here 7 full seasons - Win 2 league titles - Win 1 League or FA Cup - Win 1 European trophy I still think it's very achievable, especially as we almost fulfilled two of my predictions in his first full season.
It's really been something of a mixed bag up to this point. I think that people idealize him because he's such a likeable, passionate manager but at the same time because of this they also have overlooked his faults. If he were a little more pragmatic we could have been looking at a potential title challenge this season instead of scraping by into 4th. His stubbornness and poor tactical approach to facing defensive teams almost all season nearly cost us the Champions League. That said, I'm glad he finally switched to a different formation for those games down the stretch as the diamond really suits our team in general, but even moreso against parked teams. I could go into great detail analyzing his 4-3-3 against defensive teams but at the end of the day that's a formation that works well against teams willing to open up and play against us so it doesn't need fixing. The most important season of his managerial career with Liverpool is coming up now. His signings and how he approaches the games are going to be where he'll be judged I think. At the end of the day I admire Klopp a lot and I think he's a great manager, and a great personality so I hope he continues to be successful and builds on the success he's had up to this point. Some silverware would be nice.
It's probably a similar situation to Rafa. Requires a different system against weaker teams. Agains the good sides the open game allows our great players to get into their flow. Maybe the diamond approach is the better one against the packed defences. Overall, I didn't expoect us to be 3/4 as good as we were this year, so I'm pleased and optimistic. Also, I really think (assuming we get over the banana skin that we will be a formidable force in the CL next year.
I'm absolutely agreed. (Unless we could get Trump, of course..... because he's the best at everything, right?)
Always in the three. When Goetze first broke through at Dortmund, Kagawa was the first choice #10. After Kagawa left, Goetze took on that role. I couldn't understand it when we were linked with Goetze last summer, because Klopp himself had publicly acknowledged that we desperately lacked width and pace, neither of which Goetze provides. It looks like a bullet dodged, as he's been underwhelming since his return to Dortmund and has been ruled out since February due to a serious, but thus far nebulously defined, long-term medical condition.
a very nice gesture by Jurgen to a son whose dad died ,,,, http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...letter-joost-van-der-westhuizen-a7804631.html
