July 26 v Gladbach, wonder if Fabian will be back in training by then. If Bayern line up Julian on the left and Gladbach line up Fabian on the right that would be fun to watch.
New Bayern Munich signing a minor setback for Julian Green? http://www.starsandstripesfc.com/2014/7/7/5877209/julian-green-bayern-munich-juan-bernat
Bernat is mostly a left sided fullback. In any case, Green doesn't really have to worry about Bayern's first team roster too much as of now. There's barely room for the superstars there, even with Kroos leaving (for a new ~ $14M/Y contract at real Real)
Seems like more of a backup for Alaba - he started 33 games at left back for Valencia: http://www.whoscored.com/Players/106894/Show/Juan-Bernat
I thought the same thing when he was signed since they already have Alaba and Bernat is considered one of the best LB prospects in the world. Apparently, Alaba sees himself as CM/CDM (his role for the Austrian NT) and wants to play that role for Bayern down the road.
Putting my fanboy hat on for a second. How cool would it be to see Julian assist Lewandoski on a goal?
In fact, Bayern are the only team who could afford to convert a good youth CM prospect into a left back. That's what happened with Alaba. Is and always was a CM. #themoreyouknow
He isn't as good there as he is at rightback though and that was the point. If people weren't convinced of that fact before they certainly are now with his play in midfield at this World Cup. Alaba on the other hand is just as good in midfield as he is at leftback. He proves it by looking world class playing centrally for the Austrian national team.
Speaking of Lahm, did you'all see him execute the most perfect tackle in the history of slide tackles on side-show Bob aka Marcelo yesterday? In the box, in Brasil, in the semi-final, and he makes the most perfect slide tackle I've ever seen. I'm not sure how he did that without even touching Marcelo, but he did. Somehow Marcelo fell over anyway, and Boateng told him how he felt about it, but if that wasn't the best tackle ever completed, I don't know what is.
I've seen Lahm play a lot of matches. Have never seen him look so pedestrian as when he's been deployed in the mid-field. Still don't know wtf Jogi was thinking. I guess he was trying to give other teams a handicap.
Lahm did not move back because he wasn't a good option in the midfield he moved back because Germany was being exposed on defense. Lahm has proved this past season and his first playing in the midfield that he is very much capable. He's had better performances there then Alaba has so far. http://www.sportskeeda.com/football...-most-intelligent-player-i-have-ever-trained/ Vs man city Lahm was 134/134 passing Article explains what Lahm does in the midfield for Bayern Munich http://www.theawaystrip.com/articles/the-emancipation-of-phillip-lahm/ Alaba and Lahm are both intelligent superstars and their versatility playing at a high level proves it
Interview with Julian on Bayern's website (English). Some snippets: Soccer fever broke out in the USA. Did you pick upon any of that? Sure, that was impressive. I never expected so many fans to cheer and keep their fingers crossed for us. More viewers watched our game against Germany than the NBA finals. Even President Barack Obama sent messages of support - and invited you to the White House… It's a great honor and I definitely want to be there. But I still don't know when that's going to happen. In late July and early August you’ll be touring in the US with FC Bayern. How excited are you about that? The trip is something special for me. I love the country, I was born there and I’m always glad to be there. At our game against the MLS All Stars I’ll also meet some of my team-mates from the national team. I'm very much looking forward to the tour.
