You said not even half as good as Shearer. Looking at Shearer's production it would hardly blow my mind if Altidore in six years was able to produce at least 50 % of the returns Shearer provided and in a much stronger EPL.

I know I am relying on Wikipedia but Shearer scored 23 goals for Southampton over his four years there.

Now, he was younger than Jozy (Alan's was 18 when he started and 22 when he was transferred to Blackburn) but 23 goals over 4 seasons in the pre-Bosman Premiership isn't amazingly impressive.

Wayne Rooney started earlier in a stronger league and scored more goals in his first 4 years with Everton and ManU (42) and before the age of 22 (~60).

Michael Owen scored 18 at 18.

But he was a speed striker where Shearer was a power forward and Rooney is somewhere in between.

How many goals will Altidore score in his first 4 years in the league?

    Let's wait and see.

drogbas in amazing form, but look at the players around him at chelsea

i have seen nothing of altidore that leads me to beleive he is a future world class player

he can be good, but not on the same level as shearer

shearer did alot more than score and was world class
van basten had a brilliant technique but i feel they are comparible career wise, helped by the fact mvb retired early

if shearer had joined a bigger club he couldve won everything

I think this speculative note is as good as any on which to leave this thread behind, don't you agree?

Feel free to start a new one, y'all.
