I'm not sure about league cup appearances (I know Jozy may have had one or two appearances), but as far as league appearances Adu only had 3 more (9 to Jozy's 6) with no starts compared to Jozy's 2 starts. Also keep in mind that Adu mostly came on at around the 70th minute (60-70min-1app, 71-80-4app, 81-90+min-3) and Jozy's 4 sub apperances (45-50-1app, 50-60-1app, 70-90+-1app; and as for his starts he came off in the 77th minute in his first start and went the whole match in his second start).
Just saw the goals on TV, Jozy's goal was actually only the 3rd/4th best goal of the game. Kiernay's goal was a lovely dinked finish and Southends goal a very neat volley. Giovani's was a half volley from outside the area, but not as good as the other two. Jozy's goal wasn't a screamer, more a sucker punch, he hit along the ground after a pass from a FK and it managed to find it's way to the bottom corner through a crowded area. Not as neat as the 1st or 3rd goal. The BBC only showed the goals.
I'll agree that it was only the 3rd or 4th best goal of the match, but I can't see how anyone can say that wasn't a solid goal? Dribbled in? Slow roller? Those people are crazy. No, it wasn't a screamer, but it had to have some pace on it to beat the goalkeeper who wasn't that far away from the post. Not to mention it was great placement.
it was a great goal, bottom line. wonderfully choreographed by the other two involved. well struck and well placed by jozy. i agree, whoever described it earlier was way selling it short. jozy's not exactly a free kick specialist, that was very well taken.
I have to say I only saw it once when I made my post, looks better second time. It had good accuracy and good power. Still not quite one for the scrap book.
Well, I've seen a couple of folks on Hull message boards who were at the game to suggest that despite his well-taken goal, Jozy looked tired (which makes sense) but, even worse, "very average" against a League 1 defense.
...that's like a sky sports jounrnalist asking whip to give a detailed explanation of the us soccer program. Pay no heed to them. Even Phil Brown acknowledged Jozy's not at his best physically yet.
"It'll be a long season for him and it'll be a long way to go to get him up to Premier League fitness levels and get him up to speed with the Premier League," Brown explained. "Southend was a big stepping stone for him but there's some way to go yet."
I think once he gets his fitness up, we will begin to see what he can really do. Once he can keep up with the pace of the game, he will be able to improve on his touch, start getting on the end of/creating plays.
thanks for the video! I wish there was a slo-mo shot or a different angle as well. It looks like it was a nicely taken goal though.

I think it's an illusion caused by the ball taking a skip and spinning in towards the near post (left to right). Looks like Goalzy came across it Roberto Carlos style, just not as extreme.
Yeah, I think the fact that it is skipping in is messing with some people. The skipping makes some think that it isn't really hit that hard and just "dribbled in" past the keeper, and the movement makes some people think it took a deflection.
agree. so, about the skipping part then, to me, it still looks like a change in direction. the keeper had to dive, so despite any skipping, it was clearly a strong shot. the change in direction (if it really was that) makes me think it was off frame and got a "lucky skip" or something. i can't really tell from the vid.
