and an assist for young Josh in the 73rd minute, after Excelsior had just drawn w/in one. I think that's the first for our boy at this level.

OK, Soccerway and other places credited Pynadath w/ the assist on the 3rd goal, but from the highlights that's clearly not him. :(

Has to learn the lesson that just because you can take anyone off the dribble, that doesn't mean you always should. But it's an impressive tool to build off for sure.

Team is quite weak with a number of players in Brazil for the U-17 WC where they play Nigeria later today in the Round of 16. Brobbey is back at striker after an injury (which is why he didn't go to Brazil). Good opportunity for Pynadath to show what he has. Chelsea have won this competition in the past.

Match ended drawn at 1-1. Pynadath was subbed off at the 69th minute when teams were level on goals. Didn't see the match so I cannot comment on his performance.

I saw most of the time he was in. He pestered well on defense and forced turnovers indirectly and directly (underrated aspect of his game). Also toasted some fools off the dribble as per usual. It was the typical issue for him though. That is his decision-making/end product was insufficient. Immediately when he gets on the ball he wants to dribble/do step-overs unless there's a one-touch pass option next to him ahead of time.

A couple notable plays that were both mixed bags. He pressured the Chelsea back-line all the way to the keeper and picked the ball off in the box. Then he missed a back pass to a teammate who would have had a better angle. Actually could have kept his dribble going there and maybe taken on the keeper or showed better patience. On the 2nd one he beat his defender to the end line w/ a step over, and instead of chipping the ball to the back post dangerously he tried to score from an acute angle and comfortably missed in the end.

Thanks for the linky. Thought he played pretty well even though he didn't get a goal or assist. He has really quick feet and I dig his size. Eager to see how he develops.

It's a shame he got that red card, he looked great in the few minutes he was on. He shows no hesitation to immediately go at defenders as soon as he receives the ball. He easily blew by his defender on two occasions and got to the end line to send in a cross and another occasion, he dribbled through 3 or 4 defenders before putting a left footed effort from the top of the box off target. He looks very tricky off the dribble and adept at unbalancing his mark and has quick feet. He had more impact in his 10 or so minutes than Mendez has the entire second half. Dest looked a cut above this level.

Thanks for the description. Pynadath has looked good in the few games I have been able to watch. Looks like the kind of player that could see time for AJAX... Just not sure it would be this season... probably next year.

Mendez has never been on the field whenever I have been able to watch the Jong Team. He is the one USYNT player that went over last summer that appears to have completely lost his way. He would have been better off in the MLS. His stock is dropping for sure. Not the end for him... some guys hit a rough patch and bounce back... but AJAX does not seem like the place where he is going to turn it around....

Oh... and Dest is a cut above that level. I love that ESPN+ shows every AJAX league game. Can't wait for this weekend. Between that and the return of the Bundesliga there are quite a few US Intls that will be back on the pitch.
