That defense was absolute trash. Nobody got down low, rarely any attempts to get in front of the man with the ball, no active hands, jogging back. Far be it from stopping the ball, half the defenders weren't even looking for the ball when Josh had it on the break. It's easy to slice up "defense" like that when everyone is a mannequin. I'm glad that he's also involved in another fast-paced sport. It will help him be a better soccer player. And if he can take screens, he'll be OK when he has to go shoulder-to-shoulder in a soccer game.
Basketball. European players tend to be softer defenders. Silky shooters too though. Last couple of good Europeans at AZ (Dusan Ristic, Serbia, Lauri Markkanen, Finland) were far better on offense than they were on defense.
dunno. Found it while looking at a Feyenoord U17 vs Ajax U17 match and thought it might interest you.
Dont think he was in the highlights, hes taller and slimmer than #11. although i wouldnt mind him being #11 lol
Everyone on the field is in the highlights. If he was on the field the only choice is #11. He neither is a black guy, nor he is a tall blond one.
By the way, if you want to find video on that team google this: Ajax O17 and you get info in Dutch and video.
We are on the same page re the defense. I just said it more softly. We get no picture of how handles real defensive pressure or decision making when the first, second and maybe third option is taken away, but we still get a tiny bit of info about his first step/change of direction/acceleration and how he handles basic situations. The kid models his game on Ronaldo and Messi, but has this experience of being a provider of the ball (at least at time when he doesnt beat his man and gets a layup).

Started and went 73 minutes today in a 3-0 win for Ajax u17s. Created the first goal after his low cross forced a defender to put it in his own net. Source. Also, they posted the entire game on YouTube, which is nice. (paging @ShaftBrewer )
Watched the game. He only had like 15 or so touches. Didn't think he was too impressive this game other than the own goal. No all-touch video on this one, sorry.

Just finished this. It's really good, you guys should all check it out. Just about 18 minutes long and goes into some detail about Josh's training at Ajax. Kid really seems to have a great attitude and mindset to succeed in professional football.
Saw the whole video. He seems to be a nice kid. I hope he reaches his dreams. So, I take it he knows Dest?
He just talked and talked about how hard he worked in great detail. Steady kid, clear-minded. Also, he pronounced it: pie-NAH-deth
I hope his body develops into a man's body, right now he looks to be too slight build for the rigors of a full professional season.
