Whorehay Veeyafanya is starting again for Santos. They are dead-locked at zeroes with Queretaro going into halftime.

Back in his rightful place, the American international starting lb. Guess he has enough prestige now. Bruce runs the show there. Who he tells Chepo is good enough to play, he plays.

It's now become so commonplace and expected that it's not reported about until the next day.

Also, commonplace now, is Santos getting results and keeping clean sheets. 1-0 over might Pachuca. Now they're up to a tie for 4th in the table. No, Jorge and his play were never the problem.

    Interview with the Shredmeister:

“I always wanted to play for the United States national team,” Villafana said. “I played for the U-20 team and the U-23 team. It was always on the back of my mind that I wanted to play for the United States. It is where I was born and I have a lot of love for the country. I was disappointed at the time when I did not get the call and I was playing well. I knew Mexico could call me but I was always waiting for the call from the United States.”

Santos Laguna won 2-1 over mighty Club America. They scored at the death ala Barca in el Classico. Slammed shot took a lucky deflection. Villafana had nothing to do with that goal or the other one. I don't think he had anything to do with the goal against either. It was scored off a corner. Did come from his side.

Huge victory when it comes to making the playoffs. Santos vault to 5th, 5 points clear of 9th, with 2 games to go.

Villafana back in the good graces permanently, it appears. In the end it worked out for him he didn't make a move back to MLS for p.t. and to get back into the nt picture. It was touch and go there for a while.

Having a natural LB, who's actually pretty good, is so comforting.

EDIT: Ooof, 4,000 posts now. Perhaps it's time for me to go outside?

This is the best thing that's happened to our player pool in 2017.

    A 4-1 loss at home

That'll pretty much do it for Santos

Back at Santos Laguna, Villafaña then recaptured his place in the first 11 and started nine consecutive matches for Los Guerreros. They were on a 3-0-5 run heading into the Liga MX quarterfinals but lost the first leg, 4-1, to Toluca. Villafaña wasn’t the weak link, but coach José Manuel ‘Chepo' de la Torre opted not to dress the defender for the return match. It was a puzzling decision, but not one that’s likely to deter Arena or damage Villafaña’s confidence. He’s not on Santos’s transfer list. And he’s come too far, and overcome much higher hurdles, to reach this improbable threshold. Winning the starting job with the USA may wind up being the easy part.

“Last season some of them didn’t know [about the show] and when they found out they were like, ‘You really came out of a reality show?’ And I told them it was more like an open tryout, but they were amazed,” Villafaña said.

He’s not called ‘Sueño’ at Santos. While many athletes earn their nicknames through their play and performance, Villafaña employed the same to finally lose his.

On the bench. And the award for the *worst* lineup graphic goes to the team that requires you to know their players by sight...

So crucial that he got back in there. That's a number of times he's worked his way back in the team now.
