And he would never be able to play for the US ever again. He would have to be pretty sure about his future and the rest of his life.
Nope I don't buy anyone switching to Mexico for sporting reasons. Nobody is switching from Italy rn because of an anomaly. If anyone switches at 18 for a chance at a rnd 16 exit then yeah...
FWIW, I sent a tweet across to Eric Wynalda... Dont know what would come out of it, but, hate to lose a talented (or any level) player
News reports on ESPN say that a Mexican FA official flew to Santa Rosa to convince Jonathan and his family to switch. We have no-one to woo him on our side. I swear to God if he lose this player...
I would've slammed the door in their face. Who the hell bothers somebody and their family during the holidays?
those salesman from the 60s, knocking down doors to sell products. Maybe the kid was in Christmas spirit.
I saw a Tweet (unconfirmed, AFAIK) that said the FMF official was their TD, te Kloese. In other words, the heavy artillery.
Some rumors from insiders in Monterrey were saying that the one that needed convincing was Osorio not Jonathan. Seems Klose managed to convince Osorio.

Here's the thing: sancadilla speculated the reason why Osorio did not/wont call Jonathan is because he wants him to play for the usa when Osorio takes over next world cup cycle. Quien sabe...
That would certainly be something, I'm sure Osorio would never be able to step foot in Mexico again if this were to happen.
He made it as an 18 year old American in Mexico into Dutch magazine Voetbal International. They rated him at this moment as a 3 star player (out of 5)=midtable club player. But he caught their attention (or they read my comment in the Feyenoord thread), which is remarkable as they hardly ever mention 18 year old players from across the ocean. They just wrote about Argentine Romero after PSV bought him, so to write about him now is a good sign..
Lol when he still hasn't played for Mexico when February comes imma come back to these last 3 pages and laugh all day
Meh not really, no one in actual mexican media (not USA "mexican" media like Univision or guys like Tom Marshall) seems to care about the kid and fans here don't really know he even exists or care if he plays for Mexico or the US apparently.
The American in charge should step in and make an honest outreach to Jonathan, pointing out all the advantages of playing for the USMNT program. Gonzalez grew up in Santa Rosa and dreamed of playing for the USA, a great and magnificent country with a destiny of greatness. I just passed thru Santa Rosa twice last year. It's a wonderful place Jonathan come home to on holidays and I don't think that ever changes for him. I'm sure Kellyn and Darlington will be reaching out to Jonathan and urging him to opt for USA.
