Not having a good game unfortunately. But let's not give up him lol. He still needs to be called as soon as reasonably possible.
The lineup was different than recent matches. Pabon, Sanchez, and Funes Mori all started on the bench. Assuming El Turco wanted to bring in Sanchez for some offense. Molina also started, so he probably moved into the DM role. I wasn’t paying close attention to the match, so just guessing...
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...stant-named-interim-coach-of-u-s-soccer-team/ Am I drinking crazy-juice or does he mostly play as a ball-winning no. 6? Has his role been different for the USYNTs?

Yeah, I don't think the WaPo reporter has actually watched any relevant matches. FAKE NEWS!!!! (ha-ha!)
If this is true, I wonder if he is just going to select players that USSF is requesting or is it up to his discretion. If is up to him, then it will be like Arena still in charge.
The Mexican announcers call him Jonathan "Pac-Man" Gonzalez, presumably because he incessantly eats up ground and opposition possession. In a handful of games I haven't seen him create much though. Right now that's not his role in the system.
Hmmmm I respect Goff a lot but that sentence doesn't sound right to me. Kid is a great passer of the ball, the kind who wins it and spreads it up field quickly. I'm not sure I'd call that an attacking midfielder but whatever
He also tweeted that McKennie is an attacker about a month ago: Weston McKennie, a 19-year-old attacker from Texas, started for Schalke vs. Bayern Munich today. Logged 57 minutes.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) September 19, 2017 Maybe he just has brainfarts or something.
IIRC, earlier in their youth careers McKennie was billed as an attacking midfielder and Gonzalez as a winger at various times. As is frequently the case in prospect development, they have gravitated to more defensive roles as they have moved up the ladder.

1-0 Monterrey. Getting a bit rough (but not chippy). JG with a hard foul or two for good measure, and got tangled up with Peralta as they wrestled each other to the ground, with Peralta suggesting a yellow was in order for JG. Got to hand to our boy, he’s very aggressive and physical closing down the man with the ball, particularly after a change in possession.
JG with the anticipatory steal at midfield and threads a pass to Pabon who gets fouled in the box for a penalty! Hurtado converts! Sick play.
