    Was in Berlin this weekend.

    1) Amazing city. Had an unreal weekend.
    2) They all think he is a really good player, but are happy with the fee they received for him

Defending the Wolfenstein Castle: Brooks at Wolfsburg

    * The fictional Wolfenstein Castle is, of course, based on the "Schloss Wolfsburg" dating from the 14th century, and which became a Nazi center around which the city of Wolfsburg was built in 1938, to produce the beloved VW Beetle & a lot of tanks.

I know this is intended to be a joke, but in reality this, and the response below, is a BS knock on the German Americans.

Perhaps if they had played better for the NT, they wouldn't get those digs.

Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore get even more stick, and they're not Germericans.

Brooks has been committed to the NT, to US Soccer. Has flown all over the world on his club breaks to represent the NT. Remember the olympic team friendlies in Brazil he played in?

So the reason Brooks had a bad game in Costa Rica we should question his commitment and bring up the fact that he has a slightly unique background ? Give me a break.

Anyone who studies politics or works in international reltations will tell you, your ancestrial background should enrich you, not hold you back.

Just so tired of this garbage, he has good friends on the team (Wood, CP, Yedlin), shows up when called. Has never caused any issues in camp.

This is the same guy who was literally stunned when he scored a goal at the World Cup.

    Give. The. Narrative. A. Break.

A knock on him? Nah. Perhaps it's what you perceived. I simply meant I feel bad as he was injured and definitely seeing himself starting in Russia next summer and then the news hit that he won't. His teammates screwed up in an easily winnable game.

Its been a week and a half. You implied that someone HASN'T told him yet, and he isn't ALREADY aware that we aren't going to Russia.

You're making a storm in a glass of water. How come no one is saying Jozy Altidore is slagged due to his Haitian background? Why are people so sensitive about the German background only?

If you play badly, you deserve criticism. JAB has been inconsistent for the NT. He was just as bad as Ventura Alvarado in the 2015 Gold Cup, too. But somehow criticizing Alvarado is ok because he's of Mexican background?

I don't understand the hate on Brooks. He will be there for the next couple cycles barring major injury or huge drop in form. He is probably one of the best CBS we've ever had talent wise. I can already imagine a roster built around him, CP, Sargent and Weah. Yeah, dreaming is all I got right now.

I think about 90% of the criticism of Altidore is grounded in racism.

That's going down a very ugly rabbit hole. I won't deny it's possible a lot of the criticism against certain players is based on something like that (racism, classism, and ethnicity), for example the way many people seem to take pleasure in Adu's failure, or how many hate Donovan because he comes across as white & nerdy enough for a Weird Al video, etc.

It's entirely possible, being that humans are basically chimpanzees with technology, and chimps are tribal as heck.

BUT it introduces an element that is far too subjective to control. We must try to judge players based on how they actually perform on the field, or we risk insanity. Civilization is, also, this long, arduous fight against personal biases.

    Certainly possible.

I always felt it was because he flamed out of the PL twice. And he's inconsistent for the NT despite a great goal-scoring record.
