    Hopefully the size of this transfer fee quiets some of the more obnoxious voices criticizing the US' ability to develop players.

    Building from the back. I wonder how much, if anything they got fr DeBruyner. That may have been Chelsea making money.

    I think JAB has been in the states as much as I have been in Europe in my lifetime... hahaha. His development is at or near 0% based off his US nats time.

    The US didn't develop Brooks.

    Are you aware of where he's from??

    What, you don't think those 6 youth international appearances made him the player he is today?

    :laugh::laugh::laugh:

    One of the controversies on BS is how we should look at guys like Brooks and Green and Mix. I'm just showing why it's a fair subject for discussion.

    If you're looking for transfer fees to support US development(and the fees historically are poor) then Pulisic is the guy to wait on.

    If Brooks can get a 22M fee, Pulisic gets at least 40M. And with Wood's new 20M buyout clause, if he rebounds and has a good sophomore Bund season, it might get triggered.

    it's quite amazing. outside of Dempsey and Altidore, this transfer to Wolfsburg is probably more than every Yank transfer combined.

    Played the first half in an 8-0 win

    VfL first-half line-up: Grün – Träsch, Jaeckel, Brooks, Vierinha – Guilavogui, Rexhbecaj – Blaszczykowski, Didavi, Ntep – Dimata

    Wolfsburg have been in a decline after De Bruyne. When Brooks was going to make a jump from Hertha (who have been in European qualifying spots) it would be someone in CL or the EPL who have always been linked to him.

    Wolfsburg have made some moves to shore up their back line and bruaght in Camacho to replace Gustavo. They will improve on their 16th place finish.

    so did he move mostly for the $$$ or does he believe they can turn things around and strive to get back into the CL?

    personnaly i feel like it has a lot to do with the econimcs of MLS....mls players playing for 150k (holden) or even a few 100k....make it really had for MLS to demand more than a couple mil for players...takes away all the leverage. imagine MLS wanting 20 mil for a payer they are only giving 200k to....wouldnt make a lot of sense. accam and nagbe - for example only getting 2-3 million is well below market value if they were say, european already.....yet another reason why i think MLS salary structure hurts us soccer and in a rounadbout way holds MLS back. Owners are being penny-wise and pound foolish by being miltantly salary-suppressive.

    I would have to say that the vast majority of MLS players are probably getting paid what they are worth. If not in salary, in the total package of living in the US versus moving abroad and dealing with the issues that come with that. MLS, while a bit of an oddity as a single entity system, still has contracts that are negotiable. Players not wanting to accept the low wages offered are free to ply their trade elsewhere, unless there is no other team willing to pay them a salary higher than what MLS is offering. I don't think MLS increasing wage structure to pay the player 2x what they are making now would make a team in Scandinavia look at player X and say he's now a better player than he was before. He just has a good union negotiating for him. It would just make the owners less profit. The vast majority of MLS players have found their level, and get paid as much as they are worth.

    Well, it matters how you define it and it appears you mean transfers from MLS to Europe. The Top US national transfers prior to this were Bradley and Dempsey to MLS. If we go the other way, it isn't really everybody combined. Without including Altidore at 6.5 million, the biggest transfers out of MLS after that are Miazga for 4.6 million, Edu at 4.0 million; Howard at 3.2 million; Tim ream at 3.1 million; Brek Shea went for 3.0 million. So probably more like the top 4 after Altidore combined or equivalent of the next top three combined with Altidore.
