Nah, they just hate Germans. Brooks would be out but for his Ami connection!

I believe he was of a slightly lower footballing class... But he was funny as heck. One of the real "no pain no gain" types - who also occaisionally showed up for morning games with a Weissbier (oh the good old days) - "This is a REAL Austrian breakfast." He is also the guy who turned me on to Soccer made in Germany. All in all one of the most enjoyable, in an big-personality, funny drunk kind of way, I ever had.

Brooks (listed as Jay) started and played the first half of a friendly today against Ligue 2's SM Caen.

Wolfsburg has friendlies against VVV-Venlo (July 13) and PSV (July 19), followed by a week-long training camp in Austria. Their first competitive game of the season is on August 12 in the DFB-Pokal against Hallescher FC from the 3.Liga.

Mendez has been linked to Ajax as well fwiw.

I would no be surprised to see a number of YA's through Ajax - I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. Generally the big dutch clubs know how to sniff out transfer bargains and even the youth minimum wouldn't scare them that much... but these are thoughts for a different thread...

It would be nice if Ajax becomes the hub for Americans like how PSV has been with Mexicans

My man Brooks needs to get himself a lower number. 25 is just weird.

Starts for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga opener.

The game is on Fox Soccer Plus and Fox Soccer Match Pass at 9:30 eastern.

I though he was fine in the 5-3 extra time cup win on Monday. I don't think he was really at fault for any of the goals and had a couple of nice passes. Wolfsburg went down a man in the 90th minute. Brooks picked up a yellow card in first half stoppage time.

During 2018/2019, Brooks played 2,610 minutes in the Bundesliga (29 starts) registering 3 goals, 3 assists, and 7 yellow cards. He also played 270 minutes in the cup (3 starts) picking up a yellow card.

Phew. Got away with a gamble to poke away a ball at the very beginning. He was defending correctly on a run up the middle, shading deep, but a nice pass came to his man that was intentionally a little behind. The attacker pulls up to receive, JAB lunges to poke the ball, gets played by, leading to two other defenders tackling in the box... initially called a penalty, then reversed on VAR. A very conscientious ref, because there was definitely no obvious error, it could have gone either way. Defender got the tiniest touch on the ball, then ran over the attacker's ankle from behind. I'd have given the penalty for dangerous play.

From there, Wolfsburg got outplayed all game until the last 10 minutes, and won 3-0? Hertha just couldn't find the last ball. But I think Hertha is going to score some goals this season, their attack looked good. Credit to JAB and Wolfsburg that they didn't concede while being under pressure pretty much the whole game. Brooks was good.
