this whole thing sounds like he's done at Stuttgart. If he impresses than he might be bought. Otherwise why not loan him out somewhere in Germany or Europe?
Maybe familiarity? I'm not completely sure, but I would guess his family is from Argentina, and his brother plays there too.
Short profile from marca.com (in English) on Joel, who's trying to become the fourth Yank to ever play for the Argentine first division: http://www.marca.com/en/football/international-football/2018/01/25/5a6a407a468aebda5b8b45be.html
according to kicker, Stuttgart U23 will no longer be a U23, they will change into a U21 team. Plenty of teams seem like they want to dump their reserve team. Seems like Stuttgart were not far off from doing so as well but there were some against it, so the compromise was a U21 instead of a disbanding. They are also hoping/planning that players make the jump to the 1st team. don't know what this means for Sonora who will be 22 after he finishes his loan and his loan also seems to have a buying option. Seems likely he's not staying at Stuttgart.
Always good to touch base with the one and only @CHICHE_4. Says that @Sojoel1 feels great at Talleres and is hopeful of a USMNT call soon. Joel made the first-team bench for Talleres today, wearing #21. Soccerway says this is the second time he's done so, with May 5 being the first time. #VamosTalleres | La formación de #Talleres para jugar ante Olimpo el último partido en la #SuperligaQuilmesClásica. pic.twitter.com/ZnyDh7kIhd— Club Atlético Talleres (@CATalleresdecba) May 12, 2018

Caught up w/ @Sojoel1 (He insisted on doing interview in English. Impressive!) to talk about his upcoming season w/ Talleres de Cordoba and whether he'll return to Stuttgart or stay in futbol argentino. Also talked about brother @alansonora. https://t.co/1m2razxlZw— Arch Bell (@ArchBell) August 7, 2018 Today Soñora is a player of Talleres de Córdoba and this Sunday could make his debut in the first division of Argentine football .... "He insisted on doing interview in English. Impressive!" What is so impressive about an American wanting to do an interview in English?
