The squad selection of Mexican teams is always fascinating. Corona can hardly get a league game all season, and yet here he is, starting in consecutive Liguilla games, including the final? It's not like he's some rapidly developing youth player; he's 28, we know who he is. So odd.
MLS and American teams are so transparent with tactics and lineups, imo. i wasnt a fan of JK but it was impossible to know who would start for the usmnt with him as coach - and it was an underrated factor in the success that he did have. for instance, one reason yedlin and julian green did so well in the 2014 world cup is that no one could really scout them on the usmnt. not sure i like berhalter mapping out his entire tactics before he's even played 1 game as the coach for this reason - the element of surprise is lethal (or can be) in soccer. look at CP on BVB - does anyone really know who favre will start from game to game? - it is an advantage when your opponent doesnt know who you will select for your squad. just another angle to think about i.e. squad selection....
