Chelsea handed Women's Super League title on points-per-game basis https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...-points-per-game-basis?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
Congrats, but, hmm... Points-per-game is a poor way to decide this division. Man City were still ahead, and there was only 1 point difference (Liverpool are relegated because of that). https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/football-in-the-uk-and-ireland-season-2019-20.2105020/page-25 The FA thinks decimal points look 'precise', but it just raises the question, "What about the 7 games they didn't play?" I would've preferred a playoff later, like Serie A did if the top 2 were level on points.
Agreed, averaging points-per-game is a bad end to any season. Honestly I'd personally prefer that in such cases (with no single further match being played) only the results of the first half of the season count. That way every club played each exactly once. Most everything else is skewed to the max. (One could probably build upon that and combine those matches that were actually played twice into one combined score.)
