Has an American dad, according to the poster trophy case, who usually has pretty solid inside info : Toljan's profile: http://www.achtzehn99.de/spielerportrait-u19/u19/3503
As I am sure you know, Fabian Johnson started in the final for the U21 German team that won the European Championship. http://www.dfb.de/index.php?id=504316&spielid=320&action=schema&teama=England&teamb=Deutschland
At one point i figured he was American but i decided to just let this one solve itself out. If he became very good, his American identity( if he was American at all) would eventually come out. looks like he was American, after all.
I always thought that the number of German-Americans coming out of Stuttgart was on the low-side lately but Jermey Toljan along with 3 other players in VFB Stuttgart i considered to have an American possibility. The other three (All U-16's) were Ken Gipson Thilo Kehrer Alex Aleman there is also a definite yank in the VFB Stuttgart U-14/U-13 ranks.
Toljan is listed under the second team for hoffenheim http://www.achtzehn99.de/kader-u23/ pretty good for a '94, Would be great if the USSF could work their magic and get him on the Germerican train , of course the fact that he would have to file a one time switch probably means we won't see him with our youth teams.
Lol, I am really surprised there aren't more from Berlin. When I was growing up there the military was always at the klub....
Sorry to write again, but this German brotha relationship sort of begs the question why this phenomenon only happened in Germany. I mean we had an equally good amount of soldiers in italy and England, if my eighth grade memory serves.... Edit: should we be expecting some high quality cricketers in 20 years from Afghanistan? Double edit.... I couldn't help looking up the data http://www.vetfriends.com/US-deployments-overseas/
In the words of W. let's invade! Where is this place again? Btw, why the hll aren't we kicking ass at ping pong or judo?
Played in a friendly for Germany's U-19s against Ukraine a couple weeks ago: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/germany-u19_ukraine-u19/index/spielbericht_2289390.html
I believe this states that Toljan will be promoted to the 1st team for the remainder of the season. Can any German speakers confirm and/or give us a summary? Trainer Gisdol streicht vier Profis aus Hoffenheims Kader
Yes, he and two other will be promoted while 4 bench warmers have been removed from the first team bc they have no shot at playing time. Promoting the youth players is a planning-for-the-future move. the original article here http://www.rnz.de//Regionalmeldunge...er_Gisdol_streicht_vier_Profis_aus_Hoffen.php
Probably also means that they have given up on the reserve team making the top two and being promoted to the 3. Bundesliga, although I am not sure they applied for a license.
Sure enough: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/tsg-1899-hoffenheim-1-fc-nuremberg/index/spielbericht_2231611.html
Can any German speakers give us a translation and/or a general idea of what this article is about?
They have to rebuild the reserve team, a ton of important players leaving. Our boy Toljan is one of the players moving to the first team.
No other country is even close to the numbers we had in Germany during the Cold War. At the peak there were nearly 300k US soldiers stationed there, outside of wars the next highest post 1960 was Japan at under 100k. Look at this graphic, there have been around 11 MILLION US troops stationed in Germany since 1950.
When I was in the reserves in the mid 80s I worked in a public affairs unit and we produced otherwise very dull documents and I remember at the time writing something about how there were more Americans in the US Army in Germany than there were in the entire US Marine Corps and US Coast Guard, combined. Not the Marines and Coast Guard in Germany, but Marines and Coast Guard, overall. It was a huge presence in the Cold War.
Takes a lot of troops to plug the Fulda Gap. Considering we all thought we were going to die when the balloon went up, it's understandable a lot of Cold War babies were left behind.
