Which is not bad on a day like this, from a Danish point of view ;) :D

As for todays Superliga match :

    Superliga, round 2:
    AGF Aarhus v OB Odense, 0-2 (0-1)
    0-1 Johan Absalonsen (28')
    0-2 Mads Timm (82')
    Attendance: 7,662

    AGF lineup (4-4-2):

    ................................. Steffen Rasmussen (24)

    U. Lindkvist (26).. Ole Budtz (28).. Kim Madsen (28).. M. Lumb (19)

    Alex Valencia (27).. J. Lucena (27).. K. Árnason (24).. L. Pleidrup (25)

    ................. Jeremiah White (25)... Peter Graulund (30)

    Subs:
    Valencia / Jens Gjesing (58' )
White / Abdul Razak Salifu (70')
    Árnason / Anders Kure (70')
    ---
    OB Odense lineup (4-4-2):

Arek Onyszko - Ulrik Laursen, Anders Møller Christensen, Jan Tore Ophaug, Chris Sørensen - Cristian Bolaños (75: Mads Timm), Bechara Oliveira (65: Hans Henrik Andreasen), Esben Hansen, Jonas Borring - David Nielsen (87: Anders Jacobsen), Johan Absalonsen

Unfortunaltely a loss, but also an expected and deserved loss to the only team in the league that seem strong enough to challenge FC Købernhavn in the danish league this season. Infact Odense are able to field two just about two equally strong teams, so their squad got more depth than FC København and Odense came to Aarhus without players like fromer AC Milan defenderThomas Helveg, the 2005/06 Partizan Belgrade and Serbian league topscore Srđan Radonjić, former Norwegian international Bengt Sæternes, newly signed midfielder/defender (from Olympique Marseille) Mustapha Papa Diop and the highly experienced strikerKim Christensen.

As for the match itself, it showed that AGF both possession wise and physically was able to challenge and be on pair with a strong looking Odense team, but that AGF simply lack the needed sharpness in attack and also got the weakness in defense that especially the two central defenders Ole Budtz and Kim Madsen need to adjust to playing Superliga. Budtz because he has played abroad (mainly as a forward), but never in the Superliga and Madsen seem "rusty" and makes unfortunate mistakes, perhaps because he has been playing German 2nd Bundesliga the past few years.

Jeremiah White worked hard as usual, though his (as well as the other AGF players) shots unfortunately were off target. In the last minutes of the first half he did manage to "steal" the ball in central midfield and make a quick run and good pass to Graulund, but unfortunately his shot was easily saved by the OB keeper. In the 2nd half Graulund returned the favor when he made a quick run up the left flank and made a good pass to White who just as unfortunately was not able to get the ball passed the Odense keeper. This attack was btw an exact copy of how Odense managed to score their first goal, so again it was the last sharpness missing from the AGF attacks, while Odense just seemed very efficient by scoring two very nice goals.

The AGF support website Morethanaclub.dk have had a talk with Jeremiah White to find out a bit more about the quick winger :

    Jeremiah: The book-project (2/4)

"One day I got the idea that it might be exciting to write down my experiences in details, a kind of diary I some day could look back on. As I began to write on this 'diary', I realised that not very many - if any - Americans have done the same as I. With this in mind, I thought that it could be to some use for other Americans with dreams of playing football in Europe. If they read about my experiences, they'd avoid many mistakes, and would also be able to learn a lot from the successes I have had." White explain to morethanaclub.dk

AGF once again managed to dominate in midfield, but this time looked a bit sharper in attack in compare with the first two games of the season, mainly thanks to the young striker Mike Tullberg who got to play from start instead of Jeremiah White. No doubt White is a very good winger, but he is not the kind of big and physical strong looking header AGF need to support Graulund in attack. So I'm sure it was not because the coach lack faith in Whites qualities, but more because of tactical reasons that White was benched in this away match. You could argue that White then should play from start in left wing position. Pleidrup has not really impressed so far, but the coach seem to stick with either using Pleidrup or the more defensive minded Jens Gjesing, perhaps to support young Michael Lumb better in left back position and then AGF have not paid €350k for the Norwegian right winger Alex Valencia to sit on the bench. The experienced Norwegian International did not impressed in his first two league games, but he looked much better in this match producing some very good crosses, an assist and also showing some very good moves. Though most of the time Valencia still seem at bit too slow on/with the ball, but he has a great first touch and is very good at passing the ball. The same could be said about the AGF holding midfielders Lucena and Árnason in this match, because AGF was playing some very nice short passing and making it very difficult for Esbjerg to get much possession in midfield. Not to forget that Lucena got to score his first goal for AGF against his former club.

If it had not been for Esbjergs excellent playing French right winger Michaël Murcy, producing some good quick Esbjerg counter attacks and the fact that Kim Madsen still seem very rusty in central defense, then AGF could and should have won this match. Unfortunately you could feel the danger every time Esbjerg managed to challenge Madsen and the AGF central defence with a simple long ball to their quick forwards. Both Rajko Lekic and Demba-Nyrén came one-on-one with the AGF keeper, but thanks to some great goalkeeping and niether Nyrén or Lekic looking all too sharp, AGF kept Esbjerg from scoring more than two goals.

On the other hand the referee disallowed two AGF goals. The first by Mike Tullberg in the 35th minute for being offside and the 2nd by Graulund was disallowed in the 46th minute, for hands. But credit to right winger Michaël Murcy who really was the big star for Esbjerg in this match, more or less assisting himself when he managed to score Esbjergs late equaliser, by first making a quick run and then provide an excellen cross that with great trouble was cleared by Lindkvist just to bounce off the AGF top bar and right back to Murcy. In any case, AGF looked very good in midfield, but need to look sharper in central defense. Otherwise they are going to need to score 2-3 goals a game to get the points needed to survive in the Superliga. As for Jeremiah White, then it's a bit sad to see this quick and talented a winger warming the bench, just to play the last two minutes of injury time. The coach should really give him a try in left wing position or atleast have let him play the last 20 minutes when Esbjerg were forced to push forward. At that point in time their players were starting to look tired and AGF could really have used a quick winger/forward to tear up the Esbjerg defense.

AGF sign Icelandic U17 NT talent

AGF have signed the highly rated 16-yo Icelandic miedfield talent Gudlaugur Victor Pálsson who is joining AGF from Icelandic side Fylkir. AGF have been watching the Icelandic U17 International for a very long time and he was also on trial at AGF last year.

This past week the 20-yo AGF right back Cheikh Tidiane Sarr has been on trial at French side FC Metz. Sarr used to play for the youth Academy at Girondins de Bordeaux before signing with AGF. He has also won 4 caps for the U19 NT and played some first team games for AGF, but unfortunately he got long-term injured and though he has now been fit to play for a while, he has not been able to fight his way back on the AGF first team, so no doubt he has been happy to get this unexpected opportunity to be handed a trial at FC Metz.

In around 3½ hours from now AGF and White are facing the Danish Champions FCK and Brede Hangeland in Aarhus.

FCK have lost their Swedish NT captain Tobias Linderoth and his replacement is injured, so they are at the moment looking like crap in central midfield, playing without a holding midfielder...AGF on the other hand are fielding 2 classy holding midfielders and even got the Danish U21 NT player Jens Gjesing on the bench to play this position as well, So AGF is stronger looking in central midfield than FCK at the moment.

On the other hand, FCK are much stronger in defense and attack, so in order for AGF to win this match, they need to kill the FCK play in midfield and then rely on some quick forwards (Graulund/white) ... Tullberg who had replaced Jeremiah White in the last match in Esbjerg, is no match at all against absolute world class headers like Brede Hangeland and "Copenhagen Air Force" Michael Gravgaard..

What are White's chances of being in the starting XI today, Ceres? FCK have been slow out of the gate this season and AGF has managed to hold it's own but need to be a little patient in the back it seems. Keep us updated on the game!

Efficiency was the only difference between AGF and FCK in a rather eventless first 45 minutes. AGF forward Mike Tullberg felt cheated out of penalty in the 15th minute by the referee, but it was FCKs Canadian international Atiba Hutchinson scoring by a header only 6 minutes later, assisted by an excellent cross by FCK's newly signed Czech Rep. International Libor Sionko.

Though Mike Tullberg actually did much better than expected against Hangeland and Gravgaard in the FCK defense and AGF captain Peter Graulund also managed to produce 3 very big opportunities to score in the 2nd half, then FCK got away with all 3 points by showing some excellent goalkeeping and being that bit more efficient, despite actually producing very little in attack and not playing any better than AGF in midfield. So no wonder that Man-of-the-match was FCK keeper Jesper Christiansen.

Jeremiah White replaced Valencia in right wing position in the 59th minute but was later used as a forward when Tullberg was replaced in the 81th minute by the young Ghanian youth international Abdul Razak Salifu. White produced a few long throw-in's and long shots that was off target, but otherwise did not get to show much, while b]Hangeland[/b] his excellent header correctly disallowed by the referee in the 46th minute, when a FCK player made a foul on the AGF keeper.

AaB dominated the first 45 minutes and AGF the 2nd half, though it was actually AGF producing the most big opportunities but also shamlessly misusing them, while AaB had to thank the South African international Siyabonga Nomvethe and Swedish international Andreas Johansson for making the difference and making them look that bit sharper in attack. The two AGF forwards Tullberg and Graulund had just misused two huge opportunities, being one-on-one with the AaB keeper, when it instead was AaB scoring a goal. Nomvethe made a quick run passed AGF left back Michael Lumb and though his shot was blocked by the AGF keeper, the ball bounced right to Johansson who managed to tackle the ball passed the AGF keeper. The 2nd goal also came after AGF forward Graulund had misused several huge opportunities and this time the AGF defence did not really manage to clear the ball and Johansson made an excellent back-heel pass to fellow Swede Rade Prica who had no truble getting the ball passed the AGF keeper from very close range. A very bitter loss for an AGF team that produce plenty of huge opportunities but just like in the match against FCK simply misuse them all at the moment. White replaced Tullberg in the 62nd minute, but didnt get close to making assists or scoring goals, except for a good a free kick from 25 yards that was saved by the AaB keeper.

A rather poorly played match in compare with the other games AGF have played this season, but still a good high intensity fight. It was obvious that Brøndby are a team in crisis, while AGF have played well so far but were in need of atleast a draw, so both teams were trying to keep it safe and simple, not giving away much space or taking too many risks in midfield. However, as the highlights also shows, it was AGF producing most of the big opportunities, though still being quite inefficient in attack, but it was quite deserved that it was AGF getting away with their first win of the season... and the right time to get started since the next match is at home against the other newly promoted team, Lyngby.

Especially Ole Budtz and young Michael Lumb impressed and then ofcause Mike Tullberg for doing some very hard work and scoring a very important goal in the last minute of injury time. The Norwegian right winger Alex Valencia was once again rather disappointing to watch and was replaced by Jeremiah White in the 56th minute. Though he did not see all that much of the ball White did very well, as you can see 1 minute into the highlights, he almost made an assist, but Graulund unfortunately misused the huge opportunity.

After the match, AGF coach Ove Pedersen said that Graulund and Tullberg now are his first choice in attack and that White, Valencia and Pleidrup then would have to fight for the right and left wing positions. According to the local Aarhus newspaper, AGF are said to have made a $1.4 million bid on a Brazilian forward who unfortunatly said no the offer, but AGF are still hoping to add an extra forward to the team before the transfer window close at the end of this month and atleast one forward is invited on a short trial next week. A rumour says that it is the almost 30-yo Striker Róbert Waltner who has won some caps for Hungary and is playing for the Hungarian side Zalaegerszegi TE, but we will have to wait and see.

Honestly, if Charlie Davies is getting looks based on his play at Hammarby, why did White not get a chance against Sweden as well? Maybe if he regains his starting spot, he will get a look against Catalonia? And based every match report I have seen in this thread, why is Valencia still starting ahead of White?

Well, AGF paid $500,000 for Valencia who has won 5 caps for Norway and unlike White is highly experienced at top-flight level. So they were expecting him to be a reinforcement... and being a newly signed player they ofcause also want to give him a chance to adjust to the style of play. But I do think that White now is very close to start ahead of Valencia who really has not impressed so far.

Well, I posted a few highlights last season :
