http://www.thedailystar.com/breakingnews/local_story_015205200.html Congratulations to Jeff and thanks for your tremendous contributions to the Earthquakes' success.
Richly deserved, and not just for the Quakes and his success and leadership in San Jose, but for contributions throughout his career. And that's for all of the clubs he played for as well as his time with the USMNT as well. I think Jeff Agoos is still the most decorated MLS player to date, in terms of playing on MLS Cup-winning teams and other league honors, and we're definitely honored for witnessing what he brought to the Quakes for the years he played in San Jose. One of the first things I remember about Agoos in a Quakes uniform is that Frank Yallop entrusted him with his leadership abilities almost as soon as he was acquired in 2001. And those abilities gave Yallop's building of a winner an instant credibility, months before the Quakes would eventually win that first MLS Cup. Congratulations, Jeff!
Richly deserved! It was actually a play involving Agoos in the first game of the 2001 season that truly (at least for me) ushered in the Yallop-era in San Jose Earthquakes history. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
To me, Agoos was the key component in 2001 (along with Ekelund and Donovan). The Clash/Quakes had really struggled in the back providing the appropriate leadership. Also, his distribution from the back was good. How many centerbacks do you see taking free kicks? Congratulations to Jeff!
And don't forget (and correct me if I am wrong) that it was Jeff Agoos who scored the first of the five unanswered goals that sunk the Galaxy in THE GREATEST GAME EVER PLAYED TM.
Classic illustration as to how Yallop put the MLS Cup-winning Quakes teams together -- by building them strong up the spine first. Agoos was another component in that puzzle alongside Ekelund and Donovan. Just as important as each other, really.
