He did good, to me he didnt look scared off. Ages ago I used to think he comes across somewhat Tamadaesque (allow me to introduce that word to you all, alongside the word Yanagisawaesque), but the difference being he doesn't play timid. Very "forward leaning" player with good feet, as I might put it, somewhat comparable to the spirit shown by Sorimachi side. So far so good, but I'm not holding my breath.

As it happens from time to time I think he's JFA's current attempt to blood in a young prospect into the national setup. Expect to see him here and there accumulating experience. Here's me hoping he won't become Hirayamaesque

Wonder what Yanagisawa is doing these days. He hardly ever makes the
news these days now. I think he could have been a star if he was a MF, not
    a FW. :p
Tamada, who was never called up during Osim era, has now revived into NT.
But can he do anything special, considering his age?
Hirayama... :( He ruined the chances he had, and now he will probably be
an average striker going in and out of NT at best. Quite sad...

    Kagawa was crap.
A player who plays for mediocre 2nd division club shouldn't be called up!!

Maybe Japan's doing better than we give credit for. In Kirin Cup Paraguay drew with us in a game Japan should've won.

Paraguay has just beaten Brazil 2-0 in WCQ. They are leading the WCQ table in south america above Argentina, Mexico, Brazil and a bunch of other very capable teams

Thanks to Zico, Japan will get the 4th or 5th seed in the draw of the final round.

    Pot 1: Australia, South Korea
    Pot 2: Iran, Japan/Saudi Arabia
    Pot 3: Japan/Saudi Arabia, Bahrain
    Pot 4: Uzbekistan, North Korea
    Pot 5: Iraq, UAE

    (if Japan is the 4th)
Best : South Korea, Japan, Bahrain, Uzbekistan, UAE
Worst : Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Iraq

    (if Japan is the 5th)
Best : South Korea, Iran, Japan, Uzbekistan, UAE
Worst : Australia, Saudi Arabia, Japan, North Korea, Iraq

this should be a really interesting draw, as most traditionally big teams made it through. i can't wait to see who japan gets. on paper i think japan can and should be able to beat all these teams. but with okada, i'm not sure...but i'm prepared to give him 1 or 2 games max to prove himself in the next round. personally i really hope we draw australia.

does anyone know if the draw will be broadcast anywhere, or even online?

Australia played very effectively in the last worldcup. To some extent the style was a bit annoying to me because of long ball, yet it was such an effective tactics by Hiddink and frankly JNT have to learn to adjust to it especially against opponents of more physical style, whether we like it or not. And the only way to do that is to encounter more and more physical side on the way. I don't know what more to learn from playing the likes of Korea, Iran and Saudis.

I too welcome Sato's return to the squad, though I also wonder how he'll be used. Likely a sub at 70-75min mark.

I really hope Japan can draw australia for the final round.

If japan are the team in pot 2 and saudi end up in pot 3 cause of the draw. That'd mean that if in the same group, Japan could get the opportunity to play Australia in the last game.

For me this is perfect scenario:

Japan, with a game or two left, have secured qualification for WC2010. Australia on the other hand, need to win the last game to get 3rd place.

Then Japan beat them and eliminate them, in Australia.

That would be quite an ask. Australia haven't tasted defeat at home in a World Cup qualifier since the early '80s, I believe.
