With the Club World Cup just around the corner, I figured it's time for a thread in the same spirit as the cheesy video done by MLS for RSL earlier this year. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luaO25NSimM"]#MLS4RSL: MLS Shows Support for Real Salt Lake - YouTube[/ame] Joking aside, there is certainly a bit of pressure on Monterrey to perform this time around. CONCACAF hasn't seen a third place since Saprissa defeated Saudi Arabia's Al Ittihad in 2005. In fact compared to CAF and the AFC, CONCACAF has the worst CWC record when it comes to top three placements: AFC Third: 2007, 2008, 2009 CAF Second: 2010 Third: 2006 CONCACAF Third: 2000, 2005
Monterrey's first match is on Sunday, Dec 11 against the winner of Kashiwa Reysol/Auckland City. shit if Mexico would have hosted half as many CWC´s as Asia has, a mexican club would have been world champion by now and at least Concacaf has never lost to the Oceania champ(cough* Africa cough*)
Rayados will get another chance next year if they win this season's CCL and Tigres, since they qualify for next year's CCL, can win it in 2013. Agreed. The Club World Cup is like the MLS-FMF Superliga.
Except Mexico won 3 out of 4 in Superliga. Sure the Japanese have enjoyed some home field advantage in past years, but 2009 and 2010 was in the UAE. That's zero advantage for the two Korean teams representing Asia and both had a better finish than Atlante or Pachuca.
Well, Monterrey managed to avoid complete failure by beating African champions Espérance Sportive de Tunis in the match for 5th place.
