I know he's wanted to play in MLS. He'd have to take a pretty big pay cut. I said it before, but in a league with such tough salary restrictions and limits, signing injury prone players is tough.

Any chance Aron would be called up for March MNT friendlies? Would be great to see him back in camp.

he is a long way away from that. He's barely played soccer in ages. If he regains form and goal scoring, that would be a different matter.

Depends on who gets called up for the U-23s versus the senior team, but probably not.

If you're looking entirely at Europe-based American strikers, you've got (sorted by TM market value):

Sargent, Novakovich, Wood, Gioacchini, Boyd, Johannsson, Wright, Steven Enna (lol who?), Soto

Wright will probably be with the U-23s, and I'd be surprised if Soto wasn't.

Enna and Boyd aren't in the conversation.

Sargent will be with the senior team, and it wouldn't surprise me if Wood OR Nova is there. Probably not both.

So then it's a wild card. Does Berhalter want to call up a former prospect in Johannsson, a young upstart in Gioacchini (do we even know what country he wants to play for?), or one of the MLS stalwarts like Jozy or Zardes? Or does he just stick with two forwards?

This all sort of ignores that Johannsson hasn't scored since March 2, 2018, and the Allsvenskan season doesn't start until April 4. Hammarby has at least 3 Svenska Cupen matches before the March camp, so Johannsson needs to impress in a big way in those matches, because it's hard to imagine Berhalter calling up a center forward who hasn't scored a goal in 2 years.

Aronjo is lucky to be able to play 30 minutes without breaking something. You don't make a guy like that cross the ocean.

The March matches are in Eindhoven and Cardiff. The North Sea is pretty big, but it's not an ocean. ;)

What would be the point if he doesn't have a future in games that matter, though?

ArJo is, other than The Cyclops, the biggest what if for me in terms of USMNT in the last decade. Would love to see him put his injuries behind him, buuuuuut.....

    Started in friendly:

47 'Great location for Jóhannsson after nice post from de Brito. The Icelander jumps stretches his leg to reach the ball, but does not get a proper hit on it, and it goes a bit outside.

82 'Counter for Bajen after Jóhannsson elegantly progressed to midfield. However, Prague is home to a lot of people and the attack runs out in the sand.

    Lost 4-2.

    Starts in friendly:

Was involved in some way with the equalizer:

43 'Hammarby acknowledges. Alexander Kacaniklic meets a nice effort from the left, signed Aron Johannsson, and pushes the receipt ball into a nice Bajen conversion.

He was talking about the last decade, but in the pantheon of YA injury disasters, they are leading the line for sure.

Holden was in the last decade.

I watched him tear his ACL in the 2013 Gold Cup final in Chicago.

Like the Rolling Stones, Holden's injuries span generations.
