In hopefully the final match of the Sarachan era, and the last US match before Sarachan's and two other disastrous coaching contracts expire, the US visits Italy today.

US Starting XI (3-5-2): Horvath; CCV, Zimmerman, Long; Cannon, Delgado, Adams, Acosta, Moore; Pulisic (c), Sargent

Bench: Guzan, Miazga, Villafaña, Trapp, Lletget, Weah, Gall, Green, Wood.
    Not available: Klinsmann, Brooks, Yedlin

Should have put Trapp in for Moore and play Adams, Acosta, Delgado in front of Trapp.

There's going to be holes in front of the back 3 (5) who have not played together much.

Sarachan going out with a kick to the shins of the USMNT fan.

Moore is the RW and is the LW????

Delgado, Adams, Acosta - Which one is attacking mid?

    Are we playing a 4-5-1?

What the hell is the formation?

I like the formation, defensive as it is. I know many people will call it a 352, but since both wing backs are guys who are generally fielded as fullbacks, I'm thinking of this as more 532. Then again, most lineups I see suggested as a 352 around here put fullbacks on the wings and look like a 532 to me, so whatever. But, this looks at least solid and we shouldn't get overrun so much as last time out.

The new era begins. CP with the arm band. Before Italy take him out through a rough foul, he is going to light it up.

Acosta should at least have the speed to recover.

I suspect Delgado is gong to struggle in this game.

Oh boy. Look out. Italy never wins matches by more than 2 goals, preferring to control matches, but look out if these new kids decide they are out for blood and want the US to be their signature match.

Dave Sarachan you beauty! This is probably the greatest WTF formation and roster of recent memory.

I like it the same way Red Bulls rocket man vomited into his helmet right before descending to earth.

I honestly don’t think we win, but here’s a great chance for Long, Zimmerman, Cannon, CCV, Moore and Delgado. Go put on a show boys

Your answer to this lineup is more Will Trapp?

Anyone who looks at this lineup and roster and thinks: Will Tripp is the answer has to go look in Jozy Altidore's mirror.

In 10 games played this year, Italy has won twice (against the Saudis in Switzerland and at Poland), tied five times, and lost three times. They've scored eight times, twice in the match against Saudi Arabia, and produced four 1:1 ties.

They managed to avoid relegation in the Nations League (unlike Germany), but this is not your grandparents' Italy. They're considered fairly toothless.

    PS: Donnarumma sul banco.

Italy comes out with a 4-3-3, left to right:

    GK: Sirigu
    Defense: Emerson-Bonucci-Acerbi-De Sciglio
    Midfield: Verratti-Sensi-Barella
    Forwards: Berardi-Lasagna-Chiesa

Note: Beyond De Sciglio, Verratti and Bonucci, this is a C-team.

LOL I have to admit I chuckled. But yeah, believing that Trapp is the answer to every question would seem … misguided, at best.

cannon and moore as "wingers"? lol

i guess 0-0 or losing 0-1 is better than losing 0-3....

gonna be shocked if this lineup can create anything from the run of play.

Adams and Acosta will leave holes and Delgado may not look very good trying to fill them.

KInd of like against Colombia when Falcao left Acosta in the dust and Delgado was trying to catch Falcao from behind.Edit: The play where Falcao slipped in behind rhinoceros Bradley and scored

They have an 18 year old named Tonali that's supposed to be really good. Should be a fun game.

What in the absolute f@$k is the lineup and formation?

Sarachan is, quite literally, the dumbest coach to EVER grace the sidelines of a soccer pitch. I’m including every coach in the history of soccer.

    Good riddance, idiot.

I think it won’t be a pretty game with neither team stringing together many passes. I’m not sure how up for this game Italy is but I think they will still eke out a win. Maybe 2-1. We’ll see.

What if Adams, Acosta, and Delgado all fail do the job in the triple defensive midfield?

Italy has some strange choices today. This is the third cap for Francesco Acerbi, a 30 year old who's only on the bubble for them because things have gone badly for their program. Another starter, Emerson Palmieri, is 24 but only going for his second cap today.

Stefano Sensi is going for his first cap today, at 23. The three forwards have a combined 16 caps and 0 goals. :geek:
