They just keep popping up in Mexico, 22 year old AM on loan at Atlas from Toluca, apparently USSOCCER has gotten in touch with him http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...saac-brizuela-reveals-hes-us-citizen-will-he-
Good due diligence by our fed apparently: "Televisa journalist Pedro Antonio Flores reported via Twitter that “Conejito,” as he is widely known, was born in San Jose, Calif., and added the player said U.S. Soccer has been in contact about a possible future call-up."
It might not have been a good policy for everyday people, or good politics, but Mitt Romney's self-deportation plan has been a goldmine for American soccer... and Yanks Abroad!
He could be trying to force Mexico to call him in for Gold Cup. Hopefully we can get a commitment because the US need wingers.
Whoa... Really?! This kid impressed me this year, and would bring a different dynamic to the US team.
Conspiracy theory time: Bruno Piceno: "The stocky striker is listed as a being born in Tijuana on the Liga MX website"..."He was born in San Diego" Isaac Brizuela: "Brizuela is listed on the Liga MX website as being from Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco"..." was born in San Jose, Calif" Coincidence? Why would guys not be listed with their correct American place of birth? Is Liga MX concealing this information for some reason? They shouldn't count as non-Mexican players within the league's rules in any case, so is it done for the Mexican national team? /tinfoil hat
I've seen this guy play a few times. He's a decent winger with a lot of pace. Probably not good enough for the NT right now but if Mexico doesn't call him up to their GC squad, it wouldn't hurt for us to. He's still young and is coming off his best season and could be a guy who could crack the NT in a few years.

I tend to doubt that the the league or federation are doing it, though I suppose there is at least one known example of a club (Chivas) doing so. Plenty of sporting organizations list a player's hometown instead of their birthplace, especially when they are different... Of course, some -- like MLS -- do both.
The kid has great touch with his right foot and certainly seems to have a creative flair that the USNT could use. If he wants to play for the US, I see nothing wrong with calling him up. He's done more in his pro career than some others who have been called up have. BTW, do we know how long he lived in the US and if he speaks Ingles?
not really, Piceno was apparently born San Diego but grow up in Tijuana (many people in border towns in Mexico do this to save their kids from the bureaucratic nightmare that is getting a tourist Visa), Brizuela was born in San Jose but grow up in Lagos de Morelos (living there since he was 2 years old). Is not like if the people in charge of the website had access to the birth certificates and only post the info players have released (Piceno saying he is from Tijuana and Brizuela calling Lagos de Morelos his hometown)
No mames guey! Bien logico. We'll see what happens. If he really lived almost his entire life in mexico I have my doubts.
Sorry if it wasn't clear (/tinfoil hat), I don't actually believe there is any conspiracy here, I'm an Occam's Razor guy. But it's still an interesting coincidence considering that was the case for both players who we just found out about...
On Mexico's provisional Gold Cup roster. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8810352/Gold Cup Roster.pdf
Exactly.................... A strategy as old as time for dual-nationals. These guys have leverage that many players don't.
I doubt he will make the final cut, out of the 7 forwards on that list, Brizuela seems to be one of the worst and definetly the least experienced.
Good bye brizuela http://translate.google.com/transla...3/06/12/listo-el-tri-para-la-copa-oro&act=url
