They run a soccer store, they make some money off of it and more power to them. They clearly hope that people who care enough about soccer to spend time on a soccer discussion website will also go to the affiliated retail store and spend a few bucks. It would appear that that was the original business plan and probably is still the heart of it. But whether you do or don't patronize their retail site does not affect your ability to use and enjoy BigSoccer to your little (in your case apparently VERY little) heart's content. This is not a public utility, Mango. Look, let me put it another way: We all, presumably, have a certain amount of disposable income. Because it's not limitless (at least in my case) we have to make choices about what we do with it. I personally choose to spend some of it in support of a website. My money, my business. You choose NOT to support said website. No skin off my nose. But if I get some stuff, some access advantages or maybe the right to post an avatar of an underage porn star, well, I've paid to do so. I just get tired of people whining that they're not getting for free what I'm paying for. If you think there's some form of extortion going on, then if I were you I'd leave and not come back. I believe you looked past the amusement in the email advert, that username was obviously red carded because of the distasteful humor in being named "Osama Bin Laden", but an email dispatched to this user asking to shop at BigSoccer. About your other rant, I have no problem if non-paying members get to use avatars and other small ammenities because after all we all paid to "help support this site", but it appears you did in order to have an avatar of "an underage porn star". It's funny though, shows how much of your paycheck went into buying membership, a better job might ease your fustration because it appears you continue to stray away from the topic.
