I realize you Dortmund fans want another reason to kick Bayern in the balls, but what is the point of the super cup? To me super cups seem like a waste of time. In my opinion, Germany is the best run country in Europe as far as league and cup structure, but this competition seems like a waste of time and winning it is ultimately meaningless so what gives?

Makes money for the national football association and tradition. It supports smaller teams somewhat. Now, why England have two cups in unfathomable.

A big high profile match to start the season, that raises a lot of revenue.

It's tradition, although most clubs now use the League Cup to play reserves. Some now do the same in the FA Cup, which isa shame.

France also has 2 cups, and like England they allow a route into the Europa League and another chance for smaller teams to compete for a trophy.
