I know the only medal they won in the summer was a gold in Equestrian. Is Ireland doing anything in this Olympics?
They are medal-less so far, but you can check the following link for updates: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Ireland_at_the_2006_Winter_Olympics
good one Samarkand..lol another thing that was funny is when RTE gave the sports news...they said that the guy finished in a field of 90.....but when they didnt give his placing it was very obvious that he came near the end
Not too bad considering all he has in the country is f'ing Kiltiernan (a 'toothbrush' slope, for those who don't know.
Didn't some titled guy nearly win something last time around? Rings a bell....if anyone knows any more about it, let me know....
Yeah, an Irish athlete finished 4th in the skeleton, missing a medal by a hair. Don't remember his name, but it was very Anglo. No sign of him this time 'round.
Clifton Wrottesley is an Irish noble who nearly won Ireland's first Winter Olympic medal -- he placed fourth in 2002.
His full name is Lord Clifton Hugh Lancelot de Verdin Wrottesley. That's the Galway Wrottesleys from outside Barna.
In fact he was there this time as was his tricoloured skeleton- sled thingy. He was coach to a Connelly bloke who came a respectable (apparantly) 20th out of 29 in the skeleton. He's only been doing the sport for a year (he's one of 2 ex-sprinters the Lord is coaching) and he said he'd be over the moon with a top 20 finish so I guess thats an achievement??? Feck id take the risk of coming 90th in any event if it meant Id have the chance of representing my country!!
