I actually thought that it was a pretty good game, too. Not as tidy with the passing, but Spain was press quite heartily so it was to be expected. Overall, I thought the team put up a gritty and defensively aggressive performance.
OK, it's only a friendly but it's a nice way to end the year. First win against Spain since 2000, first win against them in Spanish soil since 1982, and Vicente del Bosque's first home defeat in some six years as Spanish coach. I'll take that, and Kroos is officially forgiven for his lamebrained potshots against Gibraltar.
I thought Bellarabi was always dangerous, but my MOTM was Rüdiger. Outstanding performance from a guy with just a handful of caps.
I stopped counting his misplaced passes at no. 6 or something. Apart from that good performance incl following his opponent player far into the Spanish half.
because now that we won the WC, it's revenge tour time. Mission eliminate Italy and Spain in the Euro
Who gives a crap whole beat in the process as long as we To the Spaniards the same thing at the Euros, what we did to them in the world cup. Take that title away from them.
That would be wonderful and everything, but I don't care if we face a slew of Gibraltars to the title.
We have more World Cups than they have titles total. We got a while till we need to worry about some peasants catching up to us
Anyone know why Weidenfeller didn't play instead of RRZ? I've always thought that Roman was the NT's 2nd choice GK, but maybe that's not the case. I thought RRZ did a fantastic job tonight, actually. One of the standouts on the pitch.
Maybe because of his poor form or because he got his chance in the last friendly so we decided to give RRZ his shot this time around
Our defensive line looked solid after a rather tepid start. Not a great game on which to base anything on...... but good to see the young guys coming up.
For all the criticism I've had towards Rüdiger's league form, I must give credit where it's due. He certainly delivered with a strong performance against Spain. Overall this was a well deserved result and a rewarding positive point to conclude this World Championship year.
Really? I thought his ball distribution was rather poor. His goal kicks always gave possession back to Spain.
Not much to say about Volland, he was okay, some good crosses and a couple of shots. About Durm, i still think he doesn't have what it takes to be a starter in Die Mannschaft. He just fails to impress me, a lot of misplaced passes, poor control under pressure and clumsy with the ball.
