You've been on this play so long, I'd like to ask you: Wasn't this a 4132? If so, what happened to Pulisic on this play? p.s. edit: People always talk about playing him "centrally" - ok, if so where is he?
So many of the dudes I was looking forward to watching in this meaningless friendly are on the bench. Typical.
Adams is a baller. Probably been our best player so far. Also impressed with Nagbe and Miazga. Miazga has good athletic qualities. You can see why Chelsea bought him. He has the ceiling to be an EPL defender and maybe even a CL player.
Very good first 25 minutes from the US, followed by 15 minutes where Paraguay adjusted and kept the US playing in the opposing half but without any creativity to make dangerous plays. Fantastic run by Adams and pass by Delgado. I've been most impressed by Miazga, Adams, Villafana. Nagbe had some very good moments, Saief getting into the right places but something not quite there. Haven't really noticed CCV. Is Sarachan coaching a good game? I tend to think so, so far.
Also, Bobby Wood hasn't done much. Perhaps that's due to the tactical setup, but he's been largely absent so far.
Overall, I'm very happy with the first half. Team is mostly on the same page, playing with confidence and playing cleanly, good combination play, good movement, good energy.
I think Saeif is limited by his athletic qualities. Seems to know where to be and apparently his service is usually good, but he's not really a threat on the ball. Lacks speed and explosiveness, which can be a limiting factor for a wide player at the highest levels. I don't really rate Wood as a great player, but I also think he looks more tentative than in previous years. You can probably chalk that up to his club situation. Dude needs to get out of there, even if it means stepping down to a promotion contender or a CL/EL contender in a smaller league.
As can be seen in this goal we weren't in a 4-1-3-2. Pulisic is chasing almost up to the forwards when the ball is played back by T&T. He's about as far ahead of Mike as Mike is ahead of the CB's. He's in the 10 position.
I'm not watching the match, so can someone please explain to me the yelllow card that was issued to Yedlin? The Timeline over at mlssoccer.com has it listed as "Extra flag to checker" and I'm not shy about admitting I haven't a clue as to what that means. TIA!
He got bumped unnecessarily after the ball was out of bounds, and he responded by knocking the ball out of the thrower's hands. Clear yellow.
LOL @ people singling out saief as poor relative to the rest of the team....he was one of the few who "gets it" out there.....he's a lock for any 23 moving forward, imo.
His passing in the first half was shaky but he settled into the player he can be. When Wood missed the open shop from six yards away was because Seif got in the way.
