Maybe U23's. I would send the Olympic squad, or a reasonable facsimile for this game as we have just played these guys a couple of weeks ago. And the Olympic team needs time together. Maybe the U20 team with MB as the 8.

That might work against Mexico to help them with their U23 team also but what about the other team they are to play?

Wouldn't shock me if there's a u-23 camp at the same time.

Only thinking of getting younger guys experience playing together. Winning would be a plus. Not really as important as bringing up and comers together. btw, the MB thing was sarcasm.

How many camps/games will there be before the Hex starts?

I don’t really think of Camp Cupcake as a real camp but perhaps Berhalter does.

5 camps plus Cupcake. Possibly 10 games outside Cupcake. Two of them, and any Cupcake games will be against woeful competition.

Taking the Cupcakers to the Gold Cup is looking pretty dumb now.

I really think we saw the bulk of our team he's taking into the hex. The soccer media has been a little too insistent on how guys like Arriola are now lock starters based on not totally embarrassing themselves in the Gold Cup. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

The hypocrisy of the Fed is pretty hilarious. Force the women to wear rainbow jerseys; schedule unnecessary match against federation whose best known characteristic is yelling P*to and Culero all match long.

Imagine what the women would do if they were schedule against a federation whose fans yelled "Dyke!" all match long. They'd probably (rightfully) boycott the match.

Scheduling this just reveals the rainbow jerseys to have been money grab, to sell more jerseys. In fact, given the women's outspokenness on LGBTQIAPK issues, their silence regarding the fed scheduling Mex is surprising.

I actually think this hasn't been discussed enough. I think FIFA has a prohibition about wearing anything on jerseys with ads and even dedications and remembrances have to be approved. What if instead of rainbow pride numbers it had been something else that more players found objectionable? Heck, there's an argument about Old Glory so to think anything can't be a hot button is naive. There have been US games that celebrate Hispanic heritage etc and yet the jerseys didn't have some sort of Hispanic icon numbers. How about Christian, Jewish, Muslim or Wicca appreciation day with appropriate numerology?

This is it. Same thing as the ole "we need to go with EXPERIENCE to qualify for WC18". Has experience ever proven to be important for national teams? Or is it just an easy talking point?

Does missing a few days of training with your club team have a history of dooming prospects? Well, if nobody has any proof of that, can't I just say "well, the confidence boost for a young guy getting called into the national team will push him to greater accomplishments and performances on the club side"? Which argument is correct?

If missing a couple training sessions destroys a player's career, he probably wasn't going to be that good anyways.

And how about leaving McKennie in Germany last Hex? Many were calling for a guy breaking into the first team to get a call up, and start pushing our lazy Lions. Same with Gonzalez in Mexico.

Nope - those guys need to stay with their clubs so they can SETTLE IN. Then we missed the WC and Gonzalez left for Mexico. Whew, thank the lawd we did that!

I have no idea what the rosters will be like since there are so many variables (MLS games, leaving guys to "settle in" with new Euro clubs, Olympic qualifying on the horizon, etc.), but I'd kinda be interested in seeing both teams bring close to A-teams as a way of testing Berhalter's coaching. I agree with the general consensus that Martino got the better of Berhalter in the GC final and made better adjustments as the game went on. I wonder if we played again with similar lineups if Berhalter would do better making adjustments of his own.

I just don't think there is time left to screw around. Adams has never played DM for 3G. That has to happen. No use having him do that with Djorde and Roldan out there getting pushed off the ball. If we had two or three years, then you can screw around. Well, we did screw around by playing Trapp there all of 2018, then 3G sat him for the whole Gold Cup to play 31 yo Bradley.

Upgrades were left off the Gold Cup for various reasons, some ok and some dumb, and now we will be heading into the Hex and we just used four weeks of intensive camp time on Djorde, Roldan, Lewis, Morris, Lovitz, Ream, Omar, Trapp. An absolute waste of time unless you think these players are going to feature in the Hex. If that is the case, then god help us all.

There is no time for nonsense with U23s. That Weah was with the U23s in March (when he ended up playing with the U20s) and has not been looked at side by side in camp with Lewis and Morris is a mistake. It is indicative that Earnie and Gregg have been making this up as they go; coming up with things just before the windows. They also seem to have been making decisions expecting a Hex in 2021.

How much does the women's team charge for tickets? Sort of the same? 68 is too high for any friendly. And to think that's probably one of the cheaper tickets.

Mexico fans seems to have no problem affording this ticket.

    It is quite embarrassing though.

Mexico's other game during that window is against Argentina on the 10th. That game would certainly be their priority if they have priorities over a couple of friendlies. I know Chile is also in the US during that window. We could have possible had Argentina and Chile as opponents. Though those might not do much for our morale.

We need to get moving on a new midfield. Puli, Adams, Wes, will be busy with either CL and / or new manager (all 3 have new managers).

Don’t disagree. Premium game that will fill the stadium. Hard to blame them for that, it’s a tried and true model, why on earth would they change it.

My guess is the other friendly during that window will be much more reasonable,

horvath as well, and boyd will have europa league.

that would leave, from your picks, ream and miazga (destination unknown). its hard to come up with names of euro based players who should be brought in but wont be in cl/el or wouldnt likely be better served getting bedded in with their teams.

an all mls/liga mex roster wouldnt surprise me.

To your first question:YES FFS. Every team at every World Cup in history has relied on experienced players. From Wikipedia: "The average age of all 736 players (in the 2018 WC) – almost 28 years – is the oldest in the tournament's history." Even winners France, 3rd youngest in the tournament, averaged 26.

To your second: I haven't seen anything that would indicate doom for young players. It's more common to hear coaches lament when a young player wasn't available for most of a preseason, for example.

To your 3rd, also from Wikipedia: "After spending less than a year with Schalke's academy team, McKennie was promoted to the first-team squad in May 2017.[8] He made his professional debut on May 20, 2017, as a 77th-minute substitute during a 1–1 draw with FC Ingolstadt 04.[9] This was his only appearance during the 2016–17 season.[10] McKennie made his first start in September 2017..." For reference, we had qualifiers on June 8 (2 weeks after McKennie's debut). The last game was October 10--a month after he got his first start as a professional. Anyone who advocates for a guy with ONE professional game under his belt to get called into the Hex is a moron (there are morons on BS--I recall at least one person insisting one-pro-game McKennie get called up in June). I think he may have had 4 games as a pro by the time the final Hex roster was put out.
