I'd be very surprised if Spain did schedule any friendlies, since they usually don't have many. Most of their international matches are qualifiers.
Interesting! I wonder why she's not getting the call. Yeah, most European countries don't need to schedule extra friendlies since their schedule is often full of a EQ/Euro/WWCQ/WWC cycle with the spring tournaments thrown in.
Probably because it is Slovakia and Portland have some interesting games in that stretch so I "could" see her making her case not to get called
It was arranged a while ago. IIRC, the two previous qualifiers she didn't play in took place during the W-League season.
Ellis announced the call-ups. New names I saw are Long from Portland and Marshall from Boston. http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/04/30/09/20/140430-wnt-v-can-winnipeg-roster-rel
Does anyone know if Phillips has been called up for Poland's qualifier next week? If she is, that could get ugly for KC.
So with Houston signing Burger, we have two more dates to add- Austria has qualifiers on June 14 and June 19. ETA: Yikes, Houston has matches against KC and WNY during that timeframe.
Houston better run a good marketing campaign around Burger. This is an MLS franchise after all, so hopefully they're successful with that. This is a GOLDEN opportunity. Houstonians love to eat (well anyone in Texas does). How to speak Austrian .... "Burrrgguh. Austrian for Beef Patty"
No, she is not called up. http://www.pzpn.pl/reprezentacje/re...014-04-23/powolania-na-mecz-z-wyspami-owczymi
Ive kinda been following the on going conversation about how the Japanese national team is going into their WC qualifying tournament without six key players because their clubs wont let them go. They should just put their players in the NWSL who loves to let players go to international matches.
I'm sure the NWSL coaches would rather the players stay, but I can see why they would be less resistant to allowing players to leave for international matches that aren't mandatory for clubs to release players. It's a new league, and if they get the reputation for allowing callups even when they don't have to, it's a good selling point for internationals who might otherwise sign elsewhere. And I had no idea until today that the Asian Cup wasn't an official FIFA event.
Aussie squad has been named Teigen ALLEN – Defender (Western Sydney Wanderers) Laura ALLEWAY – Defender (Brisbane Roar) Nicola BOLGER – Midfielder (Sydney FC) Tameka BUTT – Midfielder (Brisbane Roar) Kim CARROLL – Defender (Brisbane Roar) Stephanie CATLEY – Defender (Melbourne Victory) Brianna DAVEY – Goalkeeper (Melbourne Victory) Lisa DE VANNA – Forward (Boston Breakers) Casey DUMONT – Goalkeeper (Sydney FC) Caitlin FOORD – Forward (Sky Blue FC, USA) Kate GILL – Forward (Perth Glory) Katrina GORRY – Midfielder (Brisbane Roar) Michelle HEYMAN – Forward (Canberra United) Elise KELLOND-KNIGHT – Midfielder (Brisbane Roar) Alanna KENNEDY – Defender (Western Sydney Wanderers) Samantha KERR – Midfielder (Western New York Flash, USA) Leena KHAMIS – Forward (Sydney FC) Teresa POLIAS – Midfielder (Sydney FC) Clare POLKINGHORNE – Defender (Brisbane Roar) Hayley RASO – Forward (Brisbane Roar) Ashleigh SYKES – Midfielder (Canberra United) Emily VAN EGMOND – Midfielder (Western Sydney Wanderers) Lydia WILLIAMS – Goalkeeper (Western New York Flash, USA)
Update from the Asian Cup- Foord and DeVanna both scored in Australia's 2-2 draw with Japan. Williams started in goal, and Kerr came in for Foord. Ohale has been called up for Nigeria's WCQ match with Rwanda on the 24th.
Thinking about this, France flies to Brazil to play them on June 11 and then heads to the US while Brazil takes off to New Zealand. All these teams could have flown to the US for a mini four nations tournament and save each other the jet lag as well as play 1 or 2 extra quality opponent
Excellent point. If they make a change and do what you suggested, we'll know that someone in the group frequents BS.
