Just saw the PSG line-up.... as I said a very weak team.

here's the 2nd half, which was a bit more open. Good job by the city of Portland for promoting this; over 1700 fans came out to see it despite the 90 degree heat & special shout out to PSG; they let 4 members of the local ECNL youth club play for them in this game, WOW what a nice gesture! Not sure if the #26 is one of them, she's either about 12 years old or just very very short!

PS to add to this the non competitive nature; infinite subs were allowed, for instance; the GK got subbed in for PSG had the name of the legendary, Endler, on the back of the jersey, but it was actually a 16 year old ECNL player, same thing with Spain NT, Parades(who didn't play).

Meantime, Man City did play with what could be easily their starting lineup, so big surprise that they didn't score more goals

    RE: Huitema
She started. In about the 60th minute she had a breakaway against Bardsley. Bardsley pretty much stayed on her line, with a little more space available to the far post than the near post. IMO Huitema could have gone either near post or far. She elected far post and sliced the ball wide, as so many strikers have done before her. Some would say she choked. She was subbed out in about the 64th minute. This didn't change my mind, IMO she is the real deal.

84' 2-1 NC cross from 10m wide right to 7m 1/3 right, Jenkins right roundhouse volley across mouth into back left.

FT 2-1. North Carolina advances. Being in-season has its benefits.

Reminds me of a game I saw the University of Portland played at the University of Washington a long time ago. It was the first game of the season. Portland had a freshman striker who was supposed to be good. She scored two goals. I said to my wife, "She is the real thing." Christine Sinclair.

Later that season, someone asked U of North Carolina's Anson Dorrance if Sinclair was one of the best strikers in women's college soccer. His response: She's one of the best strikers in the world.

This line-up makes me cringe, because, in the same hours, Nadeshiko Japan could have really made use of Kumagai to try to stop Morgan! :x3:

The NC press feasts on opponents' heavy first touches and players making poor passes while under pressure. I did not see that PSG did either of those things. Lyon won't either.

Vs. Lyon, I worry a little about the young NC players being star-struck. Sensei Paul needs to weave his best magic.

Tonight, they will be missing Dunn's massive international experience, esp vs. the French players and McCall's Zerboninity. (Hell, they will miss all their starters). They do have McDonald's maturity and Captain Erceg's experience - and they have HAO, who has seen and done it all. Vs. PSG, I thought the play from the back was too biased on Hinkle's side, perhaps out of habit and unconsiously going to the familiar player in preference to the unfamiliar player, forgetting that it was The Heather O'Reilly over there. They need to use HAO way more.

Lyon are not used to being pressed high on the pitch, so it might be intetesting to see if they do their usual ball possession game or forced to play more direct football.

Looks like whatever prestige the Champlon's League had got whooped as the undermanned NC beat Lyon 1-0
