The Indian Super League will start this years, with new clubs, a lot of money and world famous players:

Will it be a success? Atlético de Kolkata will probably be the biggest club, with the help of Atlético de Madrid.

Those clubs play in the I.League which has qualification to AFC Club competitions.

Super League doesn't and is more a franchise system.

Mahindra United infact stopped playing professionally at the end of the 2009-10 season to concentrate on youth football

This is good for development of football in India. but seriously this will take a very long time to success in term of loyal fan and marketing. To develop new fan base is the problem here. Football without fans will become useless.

Holding Out for a Hero: Can Thailand Learn from The Indian Super League?

    by Matt Riley

The Hero Indian Super League is scheduled to kick off on October 12th but, for Indian football, "scheduled" has an ominous ring to it. For all its FAT faults, Thai football has had only one crisis point. When the AFC, as part of its enlightened 2009 "Vision Asia" initiative prevented Thai clubs being extensions of banks and government departments, the game was rebranded and became far more attractive to sponsors and fans...

As Simple as That: How ISL Media Put Thai Football to Shame
    by Matt Riley

Granted, the Indian Super League is a lot of sound and fury but, if history repeats itself, it may not signify much. But the way they promote the latest attempt to jump start football to their vast population is a lesson to Thailand.

It is lazy to dismiss their chirpy, all access online content as due to English being the common language of their continent. At twice the population of the UK, the number of Indian English speakers sounds stunning. One hundred and twenty five million Indians who consider English as their first language is also clearly a huge figure, but in a population of 1.2 billion it is not dominant...

It would appear that, currently based on words alone, John Abraham is the kind of owner most teams would dream of having. Seems to be buying more into the overall vision of developing Indian football then any one else

Do not blindly trust these Bollywood actors. Go through this article to know how good actor John is in real life - http://www.feverpitch.in/featured.p...-NorthEast-United-Fast-Losing-Its-Credibility

Do not blindly trust Business Tycoons, cricketers and Bollywood actors in India these people only are there to earn money and attention not to develop the game.

Nice and clean write up of ISL and its impact on Indian football. Must read for everyone who thinks this league will put Indian football on world map.

Atletico Kolkata (hosts) beat Mumbai City, 3-0, in the inaugural match yesterday.

Mumbai dominated TOP (57-43), out-shot Kolkata 7-6 (the stats page says SOG, but I think it's just regular shots as the commentary only describes one save each way), and got three corner kicks (Kolkata had none). And were able to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with it.

The goals were by Fikru Teferra Lemessa (27'), Borja (69') and Arnal (90+2).

Northeast United v. Kerala Blasters is playing right now.

(Scottish-Canadian forward Iain Hume just called offside for Kerala, 16')

One thing I noticed following the online match centre at Star Sports for yesterday is that the commentator is by no means afraid of calling out the referees if they think they screwed up.

As of now response has been huge from the fans. Average attendance of 2 matches is around 50,000 and today's match between Delhi Dynamos vs FC Pune is going to be another sell out with 60,000 fans in Nehru Stadium, Delhi.

Everything in terms of marketing has been great, now it has to be seen how they invest in grass-roots. Also the most important thing would be the format next season, cause this 2 month league is not going to do much to improve the game. Fingers crossed for now.
