Cisse on way to the hot countries. http://sport360.com/article/arabian...g-super-swoop-newcastle-united-striker-papiss
Can't see that happening. I realize he's probably looking at huge money, but the best players play in the best leagues. Players that leave for big money in small leagues disappear. Cisse won't risk his international career.
Gyan still plays for Ghana and he is in UAE for some time. It's true, Ghana hasn't a lot of strikers like Senegal right now.
I will miss him. He was a star during our Championship campaign, and although much less effective at the Premier League level, we all know what a good two-way player he is. He made whoever was at left back so much better. Adios Hombre Araña.
Would've kept Jonas on for a year only because I can't see us signing 5-8 quality players. But him and R.Taylor otherwise were right to be released, just not in the manner it was done. I'm not sure this thread title is right any more, I don't trust Carr if it's true he had the casting vote for McClaren and if he signs players without there even being a manager in place.
I definitely would have kept Jonas for another year but RTaylor was due to leave. Jonas would have been an excellent utility back up. As for Carr, he is going to have to pull of a transfer window 6-10 Cabayes for my trust to return.
As much time as I have for Jonas, they weren't going to pay him 30k/wk to be a backup, nor should they have. The way they let him know was beyond crass but that's the only issue I have with it.
It's awfully quiet considering the £14.5m signing of Georginio Wijnaldum. Like most of you, I am worrying more about a capable striker and a desperately needed CB replacement. However, the quality and price of our new arrival is heartening. It took for-EVER, but we're seeing more intent to improve than we did all last year. If we get even one of the strikers we're linked with, we'll be OK up front. Now, please find someone to take Willo's spot. Colo too, if possible. I'd rather see Colo off the bench, since he can no longer compensate for his lack of speed. We still have a way to go, and it looks like we'll be waiting 'til the end of the window. If we have to wait until January, then that top 8 goal was really more of a suggestion.
I'm pretty excited about this: I'm not sure how Premier League ready he is, but I would guess he'll be a sub at first.
LOVING this signing! Agreed, need CBs desperately and another capable/competent winger to get the crosses in for Mitrovic. If these positions are addressed then this has been very successful (and surprising!) transfer window.
Looks like we''ll be adding Chancel Mbemba soon too. I think at least one CB will be good before the season starts. A lot depends on how you see Dummett - is he a left centre back or a left back - or back up for both? I do honestly think that De Jong and Aarons will be "like new signings" as long as we can keep them fit.
Mbemba will be a great signing. I would like one more CB to push Williamson even further down the order if he is going to be staying at the club. If it is only Mbemba coming in as CB cover, I think that Dummett would be a good choice at CB as well. Don't know what has happened to him, but I had high hopes of Ferguson at LB when he was first introduced into the first team a couple of years ago. Laughable that he was played at CB last night.
Coloccini extended for another year, with an option that would make it three more years. He'll be 37 by then. Wants to leave on a free and didn't play this preseason. I'm over him as club captain. Wish the same could be said about the club. Thx, Jay!
Didn't understand this move either TBH. A player whose head wasn't in it during the San Lorenzo fiasco a couple of years ago and then his heartless displays last season? Not to mention his sitting out of the pre-season (much like he does in cup games) and not only does the club extend his contract but keeps him on as captain? SMH
Relegation brings changes, and we've done great business this year. 12 players in, 20 out, including the most important, Sissoko for £30m, which brings the total transfer spend to - £29m! Some old friends on this list (Taylor, Cisse, and Coloccini), some never-was' (Marveaux, Cabella, Riviere), and a few who didn't want to be here (Wijnaldum, Janmaat, and Sissoko). We will be much better with them in the rear view mirror. Hopefully, some of the loanees come back to a promoted NUFC (Krul, Armstrong) ready to re-establish this team in the top flight. We'll have to end this thread. In Carr, we no longer trust: https://www.nufc.co.uk/news/latest-news/graham-carr-parts-company-with-united I can't tell if it's a good thing or not, because we still haven't signed anybody, but hopefully it means we won't only buy players we think we can resell.
