Manchester United rebuild is long-term project, says Ole Gunnar Solskjær https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...roject?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Copy_to_clipboard
Jermaine Jenas came out and said we made wrong choice, only he wasnt saying that earlier 1119868041007894529 is not a valid tweet id
Everything has been turned on its head with Ole leaving interim status. Too much turmoil in a sort period. In hindsight, it would have been better to wait until the end of the season to make/announce the decision. Manager is not a switch to be flipped with instant results.
More reports that they are taking Ole’s number two Mick Phelan and making him Ole’s boss as Technical Director. This on the basis that Mick was DoF at mickey mouse aussie club for a short while. This has massively undermined Ole - who has already stated he wants Mick to remain as his number 2. Ed should have sorted this all out in one go when they appointed Ole. Crazy stuff - how to turn a winning hand into a losing one. Mick is apparently saying in addition to TD he still also wants a role in matchday stuff. Remember this anyone? Ffs ...
Agree. Ed would see the appointment of somebody with finance / contracts background such as Edwin van der Sar (who is chief exec at Ajax) as a potential threat further down the line. Mick should stick to what we know he is great at. However this feels too convenient an opportunity for Ed, so wouldn't surprise me. Dont think Ed cares or understands that it undermines Ole. Fully expect Ole to put a positive / brave face on this even though he has said he wants Mick to stay his number 2.
not if we want to do early summer business. having a manager in place is key to that. whether we actually do early business is another story
Those reports are based on an article from the dailymail. I don't care to defend Woodward, but your campaign against him recently is funny.
If that happened (and this has almost nothing to do with Ole as a manager), then the entire force of the Glazers Out movement will be resurrected unto Woodward.
Is there a single Manchester United player the fans would be sad to lose? https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...skjaer?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Copy_to_clipboard
DDG would be sad just because we had possibly our greatest goalie ever and wasted him during one of our worst runs ever. He's a difference maker at a top club and we used him as a safety net.
GNev sits down with Ole. https://www.skysports.com/football/...er-united-reaction-in-derby-world-is-watching
The ever reliable daily mirror reporting that Darren Fletcher in line to join us in a recruitment role to work under Mike Phelan. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/man-utd-consider-darren-fletcher-14574666 If true (wouldn't put any faith in the mirror but put about the same faith in Ed) then we are lurching from getting experts with a cv (LVG, Mou) to ex-players / coaches with the lightest smattering of a role. While I am on board bringing Ole / Mick back as manager / coach, an in-experienced (as Technical Director) at this level Mick and an ex-player Darren Fletcher with no non-playing experience would be stupid.
If that's true about D. Fletch then the club is making an obvious play at getting our mentality in line. Fletcher wasn't the best player, but he was smart, and he knew what it meant to play for United. In that regard, it's another positive to have that eye looking at the problem. However, he is completely unproven. If we are playing a law of large numbers game, by bringing in ex-servants of the club, then I'm okay with it. Phelan, Solksjaer, Butty, Fletcher, Carra... We are growing a core of ex-United players who, as players, were both intelligent and could grind. As far as club identity is concerned, that can't hurt. They need to all show the technical chops now to perform in their roles to our standard.
Playing to the sentimental. Expecting softer criticism and lash out from the faithful supporters? Joke. I don’t get it. When Giggs was an assistant coach, he got flack from people here holding him partially responsible for our failures with LvG. Yet Carrick gets no such flack from the same people being part of Mou’s flop and still being onboard the train wreck.
Maybe the plan with Darren Fletchers background is to tap the undiscovered riches in the Scottish and Championship leagues? His language skills should be a big help in the former ...
this no experience thing is overplayed. it doesn't stop the Ajax or Bayern models. granted ours isn't as refined and i know Ajax certainly emphasise more coaching aspects on their players but in terms of their ex-players having these marvellous big name manager CVs or for whatever position/role that just doesn't happen. not that i am advocating for Fletcher but i don't buy the no experience bit
Mike Phelan has minimal experience as Technical Director (very brief at South Coast Mariners or whatever they are called). Darren Fletcher has no experience as anything other than a player. We are one of the biggest clubs in the world in need of a total squad overhaul. Decisions need to be made on players across the globe and some smart, tough and ruthless agents need to be negotiated with from around the world. We need experience somewhere!
As they mentioned during the game today, hiring Ole was an unavoidable mistake. He was never the right guy but his early form forced our hand. A smarter club would've let the season end then analyze it. Given his whole body of work with us, he hasn't earned the job. But here we are...again with the wrong guy.
