Got to love this. Hope to see some form of Attacking football from United soon. 1075331620197023746 is not a valid tweet id
A good short term appointment by the board. I dare say no matter who came in now would have a hard time..but Solskjaer will be given lots of leeway by the United fans, and he wont get negativity even if things don't go well. He has worked with Pogba before, so he already will have a relationship with him and some others in the dressing room. It's going to be tough for him, but the most important thing at this vital stage is to get the fans up and remove the toxic vibe...and I think Solskjaer's appointment will do that. It will hopefully give the board the time to make the right decision in getting in a suitable long term manager and director of football.
A very small chance...but a chance. He would need to show that he beat all smaller teams easily....and competed on a level playing field, with attacking football against PSG, City, and the other big clubs..and getting some good results against them. With the state of the club now, and Ole's experience that is very, very unlikely. But it's win-win for Ole...if it goes bad he can say it's because of the state the club was left in...and any improvement with this team can earn him offers from other clubs in the future....and there is also the 5% chance he smashes it and gets another year here.
Di Matteo won FA cup and CL in 6 months similar to lenght of solskjaer tenure but all faded as new season commenced and he was later sacked in Nov /Dec. I think even if Solskjaer does reasonably well our aim should be to get Pochettino. Proven in PL and get us playing good football and iknow trophies will arrive in due time.
Judging by more and more accounts in the press, Pochettino could be Woodward's only real target for the permanent job. If true, that's good and bad news: good because we've identified a clear target and will do anything to get him. But on the flip side, if we can't get him yet (which is a possibility), will we have a contingency plan on place then? That is the only scenario where Ole could be in real contention. He'd still have to crush it though and prove himself worthy of consideration. But Poch being overlooked in favor of Ole is a very unlikely scenario. No pressure and little expectations on him: just go and do the job to the best of his abilities and that will probably be more than enough (in improving how things are now).
The whole idea of him still having a contract with Molde and potentially going back a quarter of the way through their season is very odd/confusing to me. It is essentially a manager loan, if that is the case.
I think we should be little bit more grateful to Molde, they maybe small club in europe but they are happy in helping us out by giving United necessary time to restructure the club and find our next coach.
they are probably getting a good deal for it. Solskjaer has a staff he has worked with for 4 years now that he trusts. Good for all parties. Ole will want to get the gig full time.
I think the Molde board, have already seen it as bringing not only their manager onto a global stage..but also their club being mentioned and highlighted to people who have never heard of them. I think a statement said as much. It's a little thing, but still something they see as something that may have a future positive effect.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t also some agreements made to get them some first dibs on future loans of younger players.
Maybe. You also have to consider how huge the PL and Man Utd is in Scandinavia. Ole wanting to help the club as an established Man Utd great, and his current club refusing, would reflect on them negatively (unfairly) and maybe lead to a break down in the current relationship. It's a no brainer for them.
OGS's loan to United is special, according to Molde's managing director. www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11586065/ole-gunnar-solskjaer-loan-to-manchester-united-is-special-says-molde-managing-director
It's still not really clear what specific responsibilities Ole will have. Can he ask for transfers during winter break or are we not doing any activity until we hire DoF? What is the timeline for DoF? Can he demote/promote players as he wishes or would he need to follow certain instructions? If we hire DoF in the next few months, is the expectation that Ole will need to work in tandem with him or will be given a free reign until summer?
