and no sooner do I post than County* get an 89th minute (apparent) winner that should see them to safety.

*er ... Newport County, that is. They're playing Notts County.

Liverpool drop points at home and cannot overtake us now. If the mancs don't beat Arsenal today same applies to them.

It is the very rare occasion when I'm hoping that Arsenal don't lose.

Another win for Chelsea yesterday. We'd never have caught them even if we'd won out. They are on course for the record number of wins, and there is no arguing with that. But I do note their wins are not always dominant, they just find a way to get the 3 points in the end. The same judgment should apply to us... nothing wrong with us having a few skin-of-the-teeth wins. I know, I know, 'the game is about glory', and all that.

Is there anything of consequence to be decided on the final day? The Liverpool-Man City ordering is about the only thing I can see up in the air.

Even Sky can't find a way to spin the City - Liverpool thing. They both have decent European coefficients and would be seeded for the qualifying round, so "which team will go straight into the group phase, and which will have to beat a team of Albanian part time electricians with their youth team" is as exciting as it gets.

It all depends on the midweek results - although I can't see Sunderland getting anything at the New Library - but wouldn't it be just delightful if Defoe scored a 94th minute equalizer!

City need 4 points to be sure of CL and 6 would get them 3rd. They are away to Watford on Sunday.

Liverpool need 3 points to be sure and they have Boro at home.

Wenger Inc. need to win out and hope that Liverpool and/or City drop points somewhere, they have Everton at home.

So there coud still be some drama on the final day. It could also come down to goal difference, Liverpool are at +33, City +34 and Wenger Inc. +29.

Lack of European commitments and an early exit in the League Cup didn’t hurt them either.

If Kane can turn it on, the scoring title. Everton have a bit of a challenge while Spurs are away to Hull. Could be ripe for pickings.

I guess so. Son is 1 away from 20 in all competitions, would like to see him reach that over the last 2 games.

Silly season talk and all, but seeing Man United looking to bring back Keane at a net loss of £23 million after bringing back Pogba for a net loss of nearly £90 million this season I was curious if there’s been another team so fiscally irresponsible?

Maybe us - we sold Defoe to Portsmouth for 9 million pounds and then the next season Levy suddenly realized we needed a goalscorer and bought him back for 15 mil in January 2009!

We did a similar thing with Robbie Keane - we sold him to Liverpool in the summer of 2008 for I think 18-19 mil and then bought him back the next January for 20 mil, even though Benitez hardly played him!

i'm pretty sure we paid significantly less to bring Robbie Keane back than we had received on his way out. I think Liverpool were by far the more red-faced about that whole episode.

peter crouch, though, we sold to QPR for peanuts, before bringing him back about 10 years later for around 10-12m.

Yeah I think Keane's return was also for 12M, having sold for 20M.

Hard to top the loss on Pogba, but Chelsea spring to mind with Matic, who they repurchased. They also let De Bruyne go, and while they didn't buy him back, I think they lost out on 40M based on a 60M Man City purchase price.

it is, to be fair. but then, 10m quid is a lot of money to pay to have someone else develop your own talent, however long it takes.
