I just love Uruguayan footballers. Too bad it's such a small country. They produce some real warriors with skill
So one of my grad school econ professors was from Uruguay. The most fascinating thing she told me is that their country produces per capita the most amount of first division football players. Also, something about how they consistently punch above their weight in terms of international performance for their pop size.
Portugal has almost triple the population of Uruguay and one Euro win compared to Uruguay's 15 Copa Americas (ahead of Brazil and Argentina) and 2 world cups I don't think anyone comes close to Uruguay when it comes to over achieving.

I’m glad we went with the guy that was sitting right in front of us instead of over paying elsewhere. Could have been lining up with van der Beek... I hope we keep this up with the others currently on loan.
Agreed but we also have to be realistic and know that not every player we have on loan and try will pan out though, at some point we will have to spend to get quality, a good balance of the two paths would be nice
This guy is the best surprise of the season. I kept saying that we needed another midfielder, because I was 100% sure that Fede will be Llorente v2.0, but WooW!!! He is doing much better than any signing would have been doing for us. I hope he keeps this up and stays injury free. That would make him the best player coming out of the academy in the last 15-20 years!
ABC: Real Madrid has renewed Fede Valverde's 2021 contract for 6 seasons until 2025.With Casemiro & Kroos renewed until 2023, the club has shielded its engine and spine for the 4 years minimum.Best news of 2019.— M•A•J (@Ultra_Suristic) November 27, 2019
well deserved contract renewal for Fede, he’s been proving since last with both Real Madrid and Uruguay that he’s a talent worth keeping an eye on, he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves.
Real Madrid paid 5m euros for Valverde. And for Casemiro Real initially paid 1.5m euros. Now they're both a very important part of the world's biggest club. [@ABCDeportes]— Infinite Madrid (@InfiniteMadrid) November 27, 2019
That 1-2 with Carvajal that led to the 1st goal was what we lacked severly from our other midfielders. They were too stationary... and almost never exploiting the space behind defenders. The best way to beat the offside trap is this sort of penetration from CMs. Barcelona have been doing it for years.
I'm a big fan. kudos for the club (perez) for getting him cheap and for Zidane for giving him a chance.
