Not concerned about the outcome of this match in the least. What we want see are solid, committed performances by players on the fringe, such as Martial, Miki and even Pereira and TFM. If we're going to make a serious push for a major trophy we'll need more than Pogba, Lukaku, Bailly and Herrera having a great season. We can't buy our way into trophyland and if we're going to return the prem trophy back to its rightful place the likes of Martial and Miki absolutely must raise their game. Much rather see these players put in a great performance and lose than win ugly. Late in the season I'll take winning ugly, but not now.
Hey @Ruud v.Nistelrooy 10 Shout out for the work you put in with threads and everything else from last season and now with preseason. Appreciate you bruh.
It's pretty comical and ironic that the City fans who won't have access to the game on cable, will have to watch it on MUTV....
I'd like to see this team starting: De Gea Valencia Jones Lindelof Blind Herrera Pogba Pereira Mkhitaryan Martial Lukaku Defensively we need everyone working together in midfield.
Would definitely look to play Bailly ahead of Jones, want to start seeing them work together as soon as possible in order to forge an understanding between the 2 of them. And if Darmian is good to go, he's the guy I'd prefer at LB as well. The rest of the team is perfectly fine and what I'd like to see as well.
Gotta agree with my wingman on Bailly ahead of Jones for this one. With the match in Santa Clara on Sunday -- a high of only 88F on Sunday! -- no one gets the full 90+ treatment but I'd still rather see Bailly get the full 60 minutes runout on City than on Real.
Nice touch from both teams. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/manchester-united-city-ariana-grande-13328006
On the injury front, Mata is the only new casuality, joining AY, Shaw ad Rojo on the sidelines. As far as City are concerned, David Silva is out with a groin issue. Sane and Toure are doubts.
Your prior post prompted the reply, which was fully commensurate with the putative logic of that prior post. For most of the season we discussed Miki failing to live up to expectations. For most of the summer we talked about the need to bring in another forward upgrade on either Martial or Miki. Both will very likely -- almost certainly -- remain on the squad, but neither are nailed on automatic starters in the way we think of Pogba, Herrera, Bailly, Valencia and De Gea. Those five are nailed on automatic starters (short of injury, rotation and the like). The same cannot be said of Miki. Nor Martial. Maybe that changes in two or three months but based on last season no one could plausibly argue that Martial and Miki did enough, let alone more than enough, to preclude serious interest in bringing in another forward. We're certainly not talking about bringing in Perisic as a potential squad man, right?
MUFC: De Gea Valencia Lindelof Smalling Blind Herrera Pogba Lingard Miki Rashford Lukaku Pereira, Romero, Bailly, Darmian, Fosu-Mensah, Jones, Mitchell, Tuanzebe, Carrick, Fellaini, McTominay, Periera, Martial
City XI: Ederson, Adarabiaro, Kompany, Walker, Fernandinho, Toure, Foden, KDB, Sterling, Roberts, Aguero.
Can't wait to see how they line up. Even for Pep, in a insignificant friendly, that would be "special"...
