Cheers to @Nyrbsoccer, who hinted at the existence of a player who would seem to be this guy, on the U14s: Ian Hoffmann 08.09.2001 2014 USA Red Bull New York https://www.fc-koeln.de/fc-info/mannschaften/nachwuchs/u14/ Champions!!! Good find! Shows the U14 beat some heavy hitters recently to get to the final. Not sure what final though, but still great to see an American youth featured at a successful TOP academy.
The mention of "USA" in his nationality with the club would mean that his parents are in Germany for "non-football related reasons."
True, but you think they would mention that since they mention other dual citizenships and it's necessary since he's under 16 (minus a family move, of course).
I did a little research and it looks like Dad is in Germany. I can't figure out if he's working, but he's there. Nothing in either parent's background indicates an EU passport, but you can never tell. His dad has a pretty deep soccer background: This Friday, seven alumni were inducted into Georgetown University’s Athletic Hall of Fame. soccer star Andrew Hoffmann (MSB’90) Hoffmann graduated as Georgetown’s all-time leader in goals, assists, and total points. In 1988, he led the soccer team to its best record in program history and its first-ever appearance in the Big East tournament.
Looks like Ian got 3 assists (6 in last 2 games) in his team's last preseason game. Far, far away as an '01, but really cool to see a homegrown youngster producing like this at a top global academy.
Kid scored again today and posted vid on his twitter account Nothing special but small clip😜 happy to score again today pic.twitter.com/poVcK9NFpy— Ian Hoffmann (@ianhoffmann21) August 11, 2015
Happy to start and get that 3-0 win vs Borrusia Mönchengladbach yesterday 👍 Now focus on Dortmund Saturday👊— Ian Hoffmann (@ianhoffmann21) September 10, 2015
Saw something about u16s YNT in England. Has he ever been in ited to a US camp? Ridiculous that he hasnt been. Usual bad decisions by National team
Is it really ridiculous and a bad decision for a 14 yr old to possibly not be called into a US National Team camp especially when he's been in Europe since he's been 13 and the US only really has sporadic US based camps starting at 14? Take a deep breadth........
Define sporadic? Is 4-5 a year sporadic w 30 odd players at a clip. And seems they have invited foreign based players regularly. So your saying bc a kid is 14, US born and raised, lets wait to give him a look til hes older and can travel better?
