Thai Curry in Arlington, VA. Good stuff. Had the duck roti, beef panang curry, and soft shell crab Pad Thai.
It is probably a more recent borrowing than that and it's pretty pervasive across Southeast Asia. Indonesian and Malaysian both use "roti" for any kind of bread, and bread is not indigenous to either place. The path is probably Sanskrit to modern subcontinental languages to SEA via either traders from what is now India starting as early as 1000 years or so ago, or from Indian languages to SEA via much more recent connections made by the British colonial presence in India and Malaya.
This is how the menu listed it: Duck Roti $7 Honey-roasted duck, fresh cucumber, spring onion and carrot, wrapped in Roti- flaky, layered texture and wonderful aroma flat bread. Served with house Hoi Sin dipping sauce.
Nah, I think I will leave it for fear of my location change being twisted into supposed evidence of intelligent design. Thanks, though - and don't forget to capitalise!
oh, and cachundo, who apparently lives in Palo Alto, a multi-cultural cesspool if there ever was one, made the gyro comment, so i don't know why you responded except maybe to get your digs in on Liverpool, where I don't live, btw. i only capitalize proper nouns...
Beeeeeeecause you were the one who brought it up in that context, by mentioning him being a Man Utd fan, in order to get digs in on them. It's quite simple, really. It was a joke, by the way. You were OK to give it, but you really don't seem all to have it come back to you!
Don't blame me, blame Jay and Brenton. It will be interesting to see what Trestman does though - in some ways, for whatever reason, it actually reminds me a bit of the Rodgers appointment... and I do have to admit that he does have Liverpool (very slowly) heading in the right direction.
Say good things about Detroit. http://www.darkrye.com/content/issue-11-detroit Lots of information about some local restaurants in there. Supino's is great and I used to grab lunch at Avalon Bakery once a week when I worked in the Cass Corridor (now known as Midtown).
Open Sesame - Belmont Shore trendy Lebanese restaurant on 2nd Street in Long Beach. food is really good. there are two dining areas, half a block apart. gets busy on weekends. these are the famous fried potatoes
I hope, for the sake of the wait staff, the kitchen is centrally located. Or that they bring your food on a golf cart.
Huh. Apparently one of our local food trucks is in the final four of a national food truck competition on "Live With Kelly and Michael." http://thetimes-tribune.com/lifestyles/what-the-fork-moves-on-in-food-truck-competition-1.1527609 Had their crabcakes at a festival once. The owner used to cook at the college where my wife works. College food service has come a long, long way since I last used my student meal card.
I noticed last night that we have an Eritrean restaurant opening in Pullman, WA. I have no idea if it will be any good or not, but we're a pretty small town to be going that narrow and relatively obscure with the cuisine choice. Eritrean!
