I hadn't paid attention for a few hours. I was just catching up on reports. ********. I was starting to think I had the storms mixed up or something. It was a ********ing Cat 1 this morning. I knew Maria would strengthen, but damn. O Maria, Maria.
Looked at it this morning and the projections were maxing out at 125. @crazypete13, you think a thread merge and rename would be in order - "Hurricane Season 2017 - the Apocalypse is upon us...again"
155 mph sustained winds. 190 mph gusts. Holy sh!t!!!. On the brighter side, it will turn north after hitting Puerto Rico and a little bit of Dominican Republic.
Let's hope it turns North. This is what happened to the last category 5 to hit Puerto Rico ... #Maria may join 1928 San Felipe/Okeechobee as only Cat. 5 #hurricanes to landfall in Puerto Rico in NOAA's database. https://t.co/8waCzTxQoo pic.twitter.com/4HyePm0T0e— Jonathan Erdman (@wxjerdman) September 19, 2017
So hurricane Nate is up to category 2 right now. Should land near Mobile, Alabama within the next 12 hours.
We're hunkered down in the inner reaches of the house for now. Tornado warning. Should be good in a few minutes. The tornadoes will probably be the worst part of Nate.
In comparison, a cat 2 is nothing. I cant help but think "Hell hat no fury like a woman scored." Had this hurricane been named Natalie, it would surely have been a cat 5 by now. (I kid, I know a cat 2 is serious.)
