I love Sherrod Brown as much as the next Browns fan, but he's dead wrong on tariffs. They don't work as a revenue stream, don't work to save jobs, don't benefit industries they purport to. I'm going to have to cover this in class tomorrow.
Maybe we need some fine young gentlemen at the Yacht Club to make a rap video on how steel tariffs benefit everyone, not just the guys who own the plant...
Great. Next you are going to tell me that tax cuts for the rich don't really benefit the working class, right?
While I was tempted, it seems almost futile to try and convince people that 200 years of economics is, well, correct.
I refute you thusly. If the E.U. wants to further increase their already massive tariffs and barriers on U.S. companies doing business there, we will simply apply a Tax on their Cars which freely pour into the U.S. They make it impossible for our cars (and more) to sell there. Big trade imbalance!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 3, 2018
Fortunately, Trump is too lazy to follow through with any of this, plus for most (I think) he would need Congressional support.
Our soon to be booming steel industry will need oceans of coal to fire its furnaces. So much winning!
He's a Wharton Grad. Someone needs to find out why Wharton gave away diplomas to people who obviously paid zero attention in class.
Speaking of Peter Navarro confirmed to the NYT that Trump will look into exemptions for certain companies. It honestly didn't occur to me for them to come up with something so manifestly corrupt. That's got to be the smartest post-Citizens United fundraising strategy imaginable. And it makes @The Jitty Slitter look pretty damn smart. Talk about slamming through one of our democracy's guardrails. JFC.
Let's assume these tariffs are in place, it's doubtful that we even have enough domestic capacity to make up for some of the shortfall. The price of steel & aluminum stuff will still go up. Trumps base won't care, except when they are wondering why canned beer went up in price. Start hoarding your steel and Aluminum scrap, its gonna go up in value!
From an environmental POV, higher price of Aluminum would be a good thing right? Higher price for recycled materials.
Dr. Phillip Barbay : I just want to get it on record that I am totally against this. I don't think that selling admission to an obviously unqualified student is either ethical or honorable. Dean Martin : Uh, right... Phil. In Mr. Melon's defense, it was a really big check.
