If Columbus Crew were to make the playoffs that is the biggest indictment of MLS as a total garbage league that I could possibly think of.

Well, discussing it and thinking it would happen are two different things.

But I feel obliged to point out how close we could have been: 90th minute & stoppage time goals drop us six points lately (TFC, Chicago, Van) that would have put us on 41, and ahead of NE on wins.

And the Revs get a 97th minute penalty in Portland to steal a draw last night after being down 2-0 after in the 85th.

Still, we do not deserve a spot. But we did have a shot.

 

This might sound defeatist, but I don't really have any emotional reaction at all to the playoff thing finally being official. We didn't deserve to be in post-season play, and that's the scenario that's worked out. Personally, I hate it that 14 effing teams in a 24 team league make the playoffs. I just hope the league resists temptation and holds the line at 14 as it expands to 26 and then 28 clubs.

 

Given how this season has gone, it is very appropriate that we were eliminated by a result-changing stoppage time goal.

 

At least we're not SKC. They set a new MLS record for games lost after having a lead.

 

I agree. Cue the obligatory @hangthadj rebuttal espousing the veritable cornucopia of coaching talent that oozes from Vermes' pores.

 

My opinion on Vermes holds the greatest authority since Vermes is from Delran, NJ about 15 minutes from where I grew up and since I played multiple club/travel team matches on Peter Vermes field.

Vermes is a multiple trophy winning very good MLS coach who is also an example of what happens when you stay in one place to long.

 

I regret that in the above post I neglected to point out that Peter Vermes is also an asshole.
